BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
Crystal Palace 1 - 3 Atletico Madrid (1-5 on aggregate)
Atletico had done a great job in the first leg with a 2-0 home win and so a decent performance here should have been enough to send them through to the final.
Palace however came out of the blocks guns blazing when Anton scored a goal to make the tie 1-2 after only 3 minutes of the game. The away side regained their composure and took control of the tie with goals from M_Odegaard (23), R_K_Muani (25 pen) and R_Sessegnon (31). The victory takes Atletico Madrid into the final of the DPT where they will play Liverpool.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "I am delighted to get to the final. This is perhaps a final we should have got to 3 seasons ago but over-achieved by getting into the champions league places every season. The first season we missed out we have done what the bookies thought we should and made the final. We have never really made it good in the end of season prize money so this ahcievement should help in the close season to build but more than anything its a chance for me to get my first silverware in FFO. There is a lot of games to play before the final but we look forwards to it".
Liverpool should be stiff opposition who are managed by in some peoples minds the best manager out there. Liverpool are third in the Premier League at present. Atletico seventh in the EFL1. Hopefully both sides will be a full strength on the day.
Both sides lined up identically (5122P) and although we dominated the stats it wasn't until injury time when our veteran defender Chuhrynskyi popped one in that we were finally able to relax. Delighted to progress through a tricky tie albeit in fairly unspectacular fashion.
Reaching a 2nd Cup Final of the season is big for us as we have several players in their early to mid thirties who we are gradually going to have to start replacing so every extra few quid we have will help for the transfer bonanza.
And so it's Atletico standing between us and the trophy. An excellent manager and a very strong side but I wouldn't expect anything else in a European final. I would love to win this competition not so much for the glory but because it's in honour of one of FFO's finest in Dave Phillips. He was a huge loss to the game and one of the best there has been.
