PSG 2 - 1 Barcelona
We went into the game on the back of a 6-2 league mauling, after an early season 4-1 away victory against our semi final spanish opponents, Despite missing TAA, who went off injured a few games ago, we were confident that we would win the game, and progress to the final for successive seasons. We expected a strong C from our opponents, but we were prepared to yield tactical advantage and play our own game, where we open up as the game progresses. The first half was quite cagey and looked like the teams would go into the changing rooms level. However, Barcelona had other ideas and hauled themselves in front on the stroke of half time.
At that point we ditching our passing approach and went for brute force, taking off Declan Rice for the Georgian. We felt it was only a matter of time before we grabbed control of the game and started to pepper our opponents goal. We thought we had pulled level on 61.....
... A_Lopes falls over
... He recovers to tip it onto the post!
... But it deflects in!
... And goes wide!!
I can only assume there was a hole in the net and the officials totally missed a valid goal.
However, we only had to wait another 3 minutes until Mbappe scored with a screamer. The game was level and everything to play for. We continued our assault on the Barcelona goal, and just as the tie looked to be heading to extra time, Vitinha was on hand deep into injury time to seal the victory.
The stats had us well in control with 26 - 12 chances. Our opponents were more successful in the tackle than we were, but we still had a 15-8 shot count. A 2-1 scoreline is probably a fair result for the shotcounts.
We now face our toughest test in the final, playing a resurgent Inter Milan, who are the only team to do the double over us this season.
