I had not looked at the Chelsea squad for a long time and was surprised at how strong it was so knew this was going to be a challenge. We set out on the front foot and it looked like we was indeed the team pushing the hardest to start with but it was the home side that got the breakthrough. With the better of the game tactically Chelsea went three gals up by the hour mark, we did pull one back but still find ourselves with an uphill task now in order to progress.
Big win for the Spice Boys over my former club and the EFL1 Champions from last season. I know just how strong a team Real Madrid are so this was a massive result. Looking at the stats, the win was fully deserved and we did win the tactical battles throughout the game. Real Madrid are a dangerous team though, and a two goal lead while nice, is not a nail in the coffin at all. It's still game on, and we will be fully focussed and with another great game plan for the 2nd leg.
A welcome break from the poor run in the domestic league for us and we reflect on yet another game that we failed to win and wondering just what we have to do to get the result the performance deserves. By no means were AC Milan poor, but we played well and to only get a draw to take to the second leg does leave a sour after taste but to be fair, the run we have been on it could quite easily had been a defeat. Timo Werner is enjoying a good run in front of goal for us right now despite the poor run which is our only real talking point right now.
