BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
Bad day at the office for The Los Blancos. Fiorentina who are a better team than what their League position suggests countered us with C & D for a big part of this game and although we had the better of a sorry looking set of stats it proved to be a day of celebration for the home side.
Sevilla have been in scintilating form of late as they push for a champions league place. Atletico have been improving and so it was a case of who could carry on the good form. Atletico were in a clinical mood with a shot count of 6-12 producing a fine result, if somewhat flattering. Goals were scored from all over the field M_Skriniar (11), M_van_de_Ven (31), K_Havertz (46), B_Cristante (59).
Atletico have moved up to 06th in the table with the top9 having firmly broken away from the rest of the league. Roma could yet comeback but they have a lot of work to do. A 3rd place finish looks to be the best achievable target with Real Madrid and Juventus playing out for the title unless PSG can go on a long winning run.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "That was a great win at my old club who I always like to see do well and we wish them well for the remainder of the season".
Next up is an away trip to Celtic in the quarter finals of the DPT. Atletico travel without the suspended Dimarco who would have been a key player.
This was a revenge game for us, Sporting beat us in Lisbon back in R2 and we've been kicking ourselves ever since. Lisbon are rebuilding, s to lose to them was embarrassing.
This time we wanted to attack them all game, and with them missing their top striker, we felt like we could get away with it. A first action goal from ESR on 4 minutes gave us the lead and Lisbon switched from C, which had given them TA, to L.
We battered our opponents but never added another goal, right until the end when goals from S_Coates & S_Gimenez on 90 & 95 minutes added some gloss to the result...but when I saw GOAL late on I feared Lisbon had made it 1-1, thankfully it wasn't to be.
Statistically we dominated Lisbon and earned some good abs in the process. Good game Jason, good luck for the rest of the seasn.
Wow, we certainly didn't see this result coming. After finding wins so hard to come by in the league, we go and get only our third one against the league leaders.
We played it tight, with the hope to sneak a draw, and were a little fortunate to get a penalty in the second half to take the win.
Suso put us in front in the first half, and we decided to play it even tighter to try and hold on, but Rodrygo got a goal back and the fans feared the worst. However, when Donnaruma took out Boadu with a clumsy foul, it gave Guirassey the chance to step up and put the penalty away. The stats were tight in terms of chances on target, but Madrid as expected edged the game overall. ul Ian.
Maybe making Militao captain has made a difference? who knows, but hopefully results will continue to pick up, next up is a European quarter final.
