    LEICESTER CITY 6-1 Everton

To say this result was needed would have been an understatement.
After 3 games in the competition we were top of the group but losing the ptevious 2 games had dropped us to 3rd and out of the qualifying places.
It reflected our league form really as early on we beat Leeds to claim a spot in the European places only to have our form dessert us and frop down to 15th place.

We started brightly and took the lead in the third minute when Dolberg curled in a shot from just outside the area. We huffed and puffed a bit controlling the game and creating minor chances although Everton did hit the post with a rare attack but that seemed to spark us into life and Semedo scored in the 21st minute when he volleyed Sequeira's pass into the net, the shot dipping wickedly to beat the keeper. Areola made a couple of saves before we made it 3-0 within ten minutes, the unfortunate de_Gea letting Simeone's shot slip through his hands. The game was over before half time when defensive midfielder Kessie scored with an overhead kick.

Everton were brighter in the second half but five minutes after the restart we scored again.Torres with a shot that beat the keeper and this seemed to knock the energy out of Everton as we continued to attack but a combination of de Gea saves and poor finishing kept the score down. Everton managed to pull a goal back when Dunk made a mistake allowing Mowatt to get his shot away although it looked like Areola had got there just in time but the referee decided that the ball has crossed the line. The expected Everton surge didn't really come and we controlled the game well and Sotoca added a sixth just after coming on as a sub with a well placed shot.

Overall we deserved the win and with other results we finish 2nd in the group and qualify for the quarter finals.

We bow out from the group of death, quite disappointed but tough ask against Atletico, a tough Bayern, and Spurs who are having a cracker of a season.

All the best to the remaining sides.

      Southampton 1 Liverpool 2

2-1 going on 5-1 to be honest, we totally outplayed them but as usual we make heavy weather of it. However after starting the group with 4 straight draws we've got the 2 away wins when it's really mattered and managed to progress albeit as runners up.

Into the quarters then and we'll face either Blackburn, Atletico Madrid or Crystal Palace. We're capable of beating all 3 of them but on the flip side we're just as capable of losing to them all too.

Tony in particular will be licking his lips at the thought of drawing me given his dominant record in our head to head encounters.

Still, just relieved to be through which is the absolute minimum we should be achieving in this competition.
