Cardiff City endured a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat against Real Betis at Cardiff City Stadium, despite an impressive performance that saw them lead twice in the match. Manager Matt Rose expressed his disappointment with the outcome but praised his side’s effort and resilience.
Cardiff started strongly, with J_Lepenant opening the scoring in the 10th minute. Although Real Betis equalised through L_Torro, M_Harris restored Cardiff's lead early in the second half. D_Caleta_Car’s header in the 73rd minute gave Cardiff a 3-2 advantage, but the Spanish side fought back with late goals from D_Praet and D_Kyereh, sealing their victory in injury time.
Rose highlighted the contributions of M_Gotze and D_Caleta_Car, emphasising their influence on the game. Despite the result, Rose believes the team can build on this performance and bounce back stronger in their next fixture.
Nothing to see here, move along..
Ok, it was a decent draw on the road, in a long list of draws this season, and one which makes progression to the knock outs much more likely. City countered, and it was a fairly even game. We took a chance on playing our young lad, who did well enough.
Positives - 4 points ahead of 3rd with 2 games to go, good games for Shaw, De Vrij and Marmadvili, minutes for our teenager.
Downsides - Booking for Palacios, not exactly an abs fest.
