BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
A flying start by the opposition gave them an immediate one goal lead at which point the plan for us was to switch tactics. However, conflicting conditionals prevented that switch from taking place and as a result the game was kind of left in limbo which was frustrating particularly from our point of view. It took until the last ten minutes of the game for us to get a goal which in turn sparked a flurry of late activity in which we eventually got over the line. This does put us in a better place in the group but still with work to do as it remains very tight.
A tough one to take, week knew this game would be key if we could go out and win it so we decided to go all out in an attempt to do exactly that.
Real Madrid came to play counter attacking football for the third game in a row vs us so we gave up TA lot begin with however a first minute goal gave us the perfect start.
We matched them with C after this but the hosts never changed and came at us which was surprising.
We held on so well up until the 82nd minute where Madrid proceeded to score 3 goals in 6 minutes to break our hearts.
A late goal from sub Beason made it 3-2 but we ran out losers on the night and are most likely out of the competition.
Statistically we held our own away to the EFL 1 league leaders but we just couldn’t hold on
Not good enough from us this season and we need to get back to it in the league to try to make up for it.
2 free hits coming up vs Leeds & Burnley where we can get some squaddie minutes sorted for the season.
This is a game that typifies when things go against you, they go against you.
We raced to a 2 goal lead and sat in a great position, Barca pulled one early but we sat very comfortable in the first half. Then chaos hit, we got our first red card and Barca levelled right on the back of it. We then concede a penalty and get our goalkeeper booked, and to wrap the game lose another player finishing with 9 men. Barca only capitalised once we lost players, simply put we was in complete control of the tie up until then.
We still have the slimmest of chances of going through, but that's a minimal percentage and to be honest we're out and can only try and salvage some pride.
A very big win for Chelski on the road to the double over the Geordies in the CL which could be pivotal to progression to the quarter finals. An early goal from us via Lamptey sealed the win ina game that ended with a 6 - 14 shot count. Newcastle obviously expected the A which was good scouting, but we have been mixing it up a bit lately with Cs and we caught them off guard with a tactic that only really works vs A and E.
We are 6 points ahead of Newcastle now with 2 games to go, but we have a game verses the best team in the game (even if the league table does not agree) and then Lisbon and we could do with getting at least a point from one of them to make sure of a spot in the quarter finals which would be a success for Chelsea as I don't believe they have progressed to the QF's much in recent history.
With maximum points from our previous three group games, we went into this one knowing a win would seal our place in the next round but we were poor and got pretty much what we deserved with the only real bonus being that we only lost by just the one goal. We set up to try and make it hard for them to break us down but they had so much more of the game and the only goal coming late on which could well be because of my choice of subs at such a crucial time looking to get some minute on players that need them.
Still doing well with nine points from twelve which is a great return but we were poor today.
