BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
The visitors took an early lead in the game through Luis Diaz who is off to a flyer for the Italians, prompting them to adopt a defensive line up in the hope of hanging on to that advantage. We struck back just after the half hour mark and despite the opposition regaining a tactical advantage it was my lads that mainly pressed hard looking to take the lead back but unfortunately it wasn't to be so this has to go down as two points dropped.
Despite going 2 goals down we edged the game and the result was unfortunate for us as a loss was not deserved we gave the Germans giants a great game if anything they had the luck on there side but all.in all great game and we dust off and go again well played JB.
Delighted to come away with anything here. We set up cautiously to avoid a big score, and to our surprise got the early goal through Diaz, who has scored in each game now. I didn't intend to defend for pretty much the whole game, but that's how it turned out, and the back line and Marmardvili managed to hold out after Madrid got the equaliser in the first half.
Gg Ian, apols for the D.
Embarrassing result away from home to a rebuilding Lisbon team who many have tipped for relegation. It's games like these that make me realise that you can have a better team but it's all down to luck at the end of the day.
Lisbon came into the game missing their best striker and considering how weak they've become due to a reduction in age, we stuck with the A tactic we used midweek against Braga and surprisingly Lisbon played A too and quickly took the lead just 6 minutes in.
The hosts shifted to D, thus giving us TA but the second goal went to Sporting on 17 minutes and the game was over.
We pulled one back 5 minutes after the restart but we didn't come close to earning anything from this game and our good start to the season has ended.
Statistically we were by far the better team with our GK having another shocker as Lisbon score 2 goals from their 4 shots on target....Yawn.
Good game Jason, all the best for the rest of the season.
Our record in the past and against Mati's teams have been poor, going all the way back to a CL final defeat on penalties, so this was a massive potential banana skin. We expected a defensive setup but believe our A game can blow most teams away. We were two up within 12 minutes. A tactical blunder resulted in us switching to 40123 on the half hour, which left us unbalanced. A few tactical switches later, and the home teal pulled a goal back, and the game was beginning to look a little nervy. We shored things up a little by pulling Declan Rice back to sit just in front of the back 4, and managed to see out the game, grabbing a 3rd with the final kick of the game.
Pleasing to get this game out of the way, and 3 points. I usually struggle against Mati's teams, but this seemed to be a routine win with a dominant performance. We potentially went too gung ho at 2 up and will address that going forward. Next up is a top of the table clash which could see us put some space between ourselves and our rivals
"Always nice to win a potential banana skin tie, Feyenoord had a great season last year but they are definitely one of the weaker teams in the league, so we knew we had to come here and get the win and get our season well and truly underway, we dominated the game to be fair and probably could of had a couple more on another day, great that Lewa got off the mark also, hopefully its the first of many for him, 4 points from the first 2 is a good start but we have got a lot of tough games coming up now, to be honest when I look at the league, there arent really many games where I think we should be comfortably picking up the 3 points, its definitely going to be a long and up and down season im sure"
A very average performance gave Atletico a shot count advantage of only 12-11. Thankfully on the day it was enough to scrap the victory after a comeback from Sevilla late in the game.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "Those were the sort of games we ended up losing last season so hopefully the gods are calmer with us. With cup progression and 4 points on the board, its been a decent start to the season for us".
