BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
A real six-pointer game in the title race. Both sides set up cautiously at the start but Madrid opened up in the 2nd half with a mix of passing and attack and right towards the end Guimaraes scored the winning goal in the 87th minute. PSG made changes but it was too late to have much effect and Madrid ended the game unlucky not to add a 2nd goal. Overall, Real Madrid deserved the win and now go 4 clear of Roma, and 6 clear of PSG. GG.
Hopefully now Ed Clark and PSG, and Derek and Roma will ackowledge me. All throughout the season it has seen both managers totally overlooking us and counting out our abilities. It looks like there is a chance, that attitude might now come to bite them on their bums. For Ed, it was all Roma this, and Roma that. For Derek, it was some nonesense about turning the lights out at Madrid. All these comments look very silly now. We will take each game as it comes going forward, and are very experienced in these situations so we know what to do.
Whatever happens, we are showing both of those teams that you should never understimate the real bad guys of FFO.
In FFO you lose games, that’s just part and parcel of football management, but there is nothing worse than losing to a team that drops the D after going one up. But it works so who am I to criticise.
We’ve had a good run, and didn’t get enough shots on target to really alter the game whilst Napoli were clinical, 4 shots, 4 on target, 2 goals. Fine margins.
A frustrating result as we miss the chance to really close the gap on AC Milan above us, only managing a draw after late heartbreak on the road against bottom of the league.
We set up to attack as we felt Marseille could be had as we’ve beaten them twice already this season and the hosts played A too and we were licking our lips….it came as no surprise that they took the lead on 13 minutes and we were chasing the game.
We hit back just two minutes later through E_Smith_Rowe but within 3 minutes, Marseille were back ahead.
Marseille switched tactics to E on 30 minutes gifting us TA but on the stroke of half time it was 3-1 as Marseille stretched their lead and we were wondering where it had all gone wrong.
4 minutes into injury time at the end of the half we brought it back to 3-2 but we knew a big second half was needed.
After a slow start to the second half, we made it 3-3 on 68 minutes and Marseille changed tactics to L.
The game went back and forth but on 86 minutes we thought we’d won it with our 4th of the game but late heartbreak came as Marseille snatched a point at the death to leave us feeling very deflated.
Statistically we were the better team but weren’t clinical and our goalkeeper had a bad day at the office today. With results elsewhere being ideal, this was a real opportunity for us to record a win and improve our league position. That’s 7 points in recent weeks that we’ve dropped against teams we should easily be beating, had we won those games we’d be breathing down the neck of PSG in 3rd.
"One of those games we were firmly in, but never really in it, trying to beat a 26 rated keeper and a very strong team in Roma at home was just something to far to ask, it will take me a couple of weeks to get this team setup a certain way, it's going tonbe tough to cling on, we now are going to go on a tough run of games, ive got a good feeling about transfers this week and I'm hoping they can make the difference going forward"
Another terrible performance from Atletico who were out-thought and out-fought in this one. Comprehensively outplayed.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "The season just gets worse for us and next up it does not get any easier with Juventus. We seem to have had the same issues playing against the teams we struggled against in the first 10 games of the season. Hopefully once we get past the Juve fixture we have 8 games left against sides we did better. 6th place is still not beyond us but results are going to have to drastically change soon".
If we were to retain our title then this was a must not lose game. Maybe this prompted us to play too cautiously, and once we fell behind it was too late to salvage anything from the game. Both teams started out quite conservative, but our hosts moved up through gears as the game progressed, and they were rewarded with a late deserved winner. No complaints with this one - we didnt deserve anything from the game. Real Madrid move 6 points ahead and it will be a very difficult task to overhaul them now. However, we will continue to try, and the CL seed is still up for grabs.
GG
The elusive treble seems to have escaped us, but we still have 2 cup finals to look forward to, and we need to ensure that we have the best possible squads available, so will be trying to get those ?8DP players over the line, along with minutes for those squaddies
A battle of the new-boys as we hosted Celtic at the San Siro with Juan Musso making his debut for the team following his transfer from Atletico Madrid which saw his fellow Argentine Emi Martinez make the move to Spain following a string of mistakes in league matches (3 defeats in 4 matches, all by 1 goal, and all including a penalty given away by Martinez!)
Celtic suffered an injury setback early in the game as Neres went off injured and was replaced by O'Dowda. This seemed to inspire the team however and they took the lead less than 20 minutes in, a Ben Yedder strike coming back to him via a combination of post and goalkeeper leaving him with an easy tap-in.
On the half time whistle Kimmich played in Castagne who rifled a finish past Raya in the Celtic goal to leave the scores level at the half time break.
With 10 minutes to go Gnabry smashed home his 17th of the season beyond a helpless Raya and the turnaround was complete. To further compound the misery for Celtic Dembele was sent off for a second yellow card with 5 minutes to go, potentially leaving the Scottish club with 2 midfielders missing for their next match.
