BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
Current league position aside, Marshy is a top manager at a top team and would usually be just behind those top 3 teams, but for whatever reason this season just hasn’t worked out so far, but to still be in touching distance of champions league is a huge credit to him.
I got my tactics spot on in this game, but was aided by two injuries which certainly put the game in my favour, overall though a very comfortable victory and a huge 6 pointer which sees us 15 points clear of 9th place. Would be disappointing to not qualify for champions league now.
Yes you are reading this right we went to the Nou Camp and fully deserved this victory. Following 5 straight draws with a few of these games seeing our opponents scoring 93rd minute plus fluky goals to deny us the win my team of shit payers held firm and spoiled the party of Sam's opening game in charge of the massive Spanish Giants.
I have to say this win with a substandard team on paper to Barcelona feels great considering the times Sam done this to me when I was at Sporting Lisbon.
We have 3 new players coming in from Barcelona on Saturday which increases our shooting dramatically I am hoping it will help close the 6 point gap Dortmund which is really 7 points if the goal difference is included.
10 cup finals to go for me to try and make sure I don't get a relegation on my record even if it is caretaker.
Best of luck for the rest of the season and future seasons Sam.
"The team wasnt at the races, still drunk from the mid week celebrations, maybe, some players not playing for the new manager, also maybe, we will rectify that this window, every game in this division is a tough one but this should of been 3 points and move on, the lads have now brought pressure on themselves, Leipzig have been crying out for a bit of fortune and yes we were without a key player or 2 but they got that bit of fortune, we didn't control the game like id expect us to, even though it was a game of few chances we didn't take ours, we didn't get our main shooters on the ball, Jesus was dropping back to try and make things happen and he needs to be getting fed the ball where it matters, we learnt plenty from tonight's defeat and we will move on, its a massive game Sunday and we have to be in a better place for that game."
The research didnt pay off here with manager Hopton spicing things up by going attacking with Marsh expecting the usual countering tactics used when Milan travel to the better teams in the league. Fair play to Hopton who is having a great season getting the most from his side. Things were certainly not helped with the home side having to change a 25 keeper to a 20 and a 14-21-15 midfielder into a 13-18-5 one early in the game.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "Another frustrating game for us. After a long unbeaten run got us back in with a decent chance of finishing high up the league table we have hit a sticky patch of bad form with only 1 win in 6. I think off the field things are going well. Finances are good, we are pleased with the transfer work that has occurred and the team has improved. On the field is a mess really. We have had so many more injuries than previous seasons and red cards. Couple that with some terrible luck in the first 10 games of the season and being out-tactic'd too many times we are back languishing in 10th place. 06th place is still a realistic target with some scratchy seasons for others around us but in truth we will be glad when this season is over".
Marsh spoke about manager Hopton surprise decision to leave Milan at the end of the season "Yeah I was surprised by that move. Mr Hopton is a very under-rated manager who has copped for some unnecessary stick over the years. I thought he would want to enjoy the fruits of his labour by having a go in the Champions League next season. I know from experience we surprisingly got there in my first season here and had no hope of winning it but it was enjoyable all the same to try and battle against all the top sides. It would be a shame to lose Hopton from EFL1 with a few other top managers already departed".
The decision has been made that Nainggolan and Stepanenko will leave the club shortly leaving only Stevens to get 18 minutes over the rest of the season.
Transfer news : Following the game last night Inter Milan made Martinez available for transfer. It seems new manager John Read had a major fall out with the player. WIth Musso's form being below the standard this season an agreement was made for the players to exchange clubs. Perhaps a change for both players will result in better form".
We need to be careful with our DP at the moment with the CL in mind, so rested Doku for this one. Sterling jumped up front and the reliable Tadic came into the side from the bench to fill Sterlings spot in AM. Tadic has been a bargin buy from Roma and has contributed 11 goals so far this season mostly from the bench or filling in when needed. Money well spent, and he proved so again today with another goal. Leverkusen tired to make it tricky with an L approach, but Madrid still found the openeings needed and wound up earning another three points.
Next up is PSG and an opportunity to go 6 points ahead of them.
A solid win against a team probably in a transition due to a change in management. Our opponents in the EFL Cup semi final and now in the league, we expected them to play open football as they've done previously but they played counter attacking football thus giving them TA vs our P tactic.
An early goal from S_Gimenez gave us the advantage and we went on the hunt for more goals by switching to A and with 2 goals in 6 minutes just past the half hour mark from E_Smith_Rowe & Joao_Felix we were 3 ahead and cruising before the break.
The second half was back and forth with both teams having spells but we put the game to bed in the 67th minute as Joao_Felix notched his 2nd of the game to make it 4-0.
Statistically we were the better team, 4-0 flatters us but we'll take it. 3 yellow cards today is less than ideal and we'll potentially have to rest players ahead of other important games on the horizon.
