I've always struggled against John. Even when he's been marshalling a bunch of pensioners his teams have punched above their weight. An even game where a draw seems a fair result.

Maybe EFL needs a quiet humble manager who knows what he's doing to mix it up?

Our title charge seems to be petering out. And it'd be sad to end with a whimper rather than a bang. But we've still got to face the original Dark Art twins so all is not lost yet.

Barcelona 3 Leverkusen 1

We scored early and I honestly thought we would blow them away but in fairness to Leverkusen they rode through the early storm, changed their tactics a few times and equalised on the HT whistle. The start of the 2nd half felt like a much more competitive game and one that could go either way but we got our noses in front again on the hour mark and then Romero, who actually leaves for Leverkusen this week, came off the bench and immediately made it 3. The visitors were then reduced to ten men but we couldn't add to our tally. Stats wise Leverkusen contributed a lot to the game but we really needed the win especially as we have a run of extremely hard games coming up, particularly on the road (PSG, Madrid, Roma, Lisbon...)

We're in pretty decent shape as things stand sitting as best of the rest behind the so called big 3, but as I say some really tough fixtures ahead so things could change very quickly. We have 3 defenders who are a baw hair from rating up but not one of them made a tackle today which is frustrating.

Monaco 0-0 RB Leipzig

Bore draw. Shows when the opposition DF gets MOM and our best player was a DF also. Not a lot I can really say about this one. Pleased to get some valuable minutes in for Cataldi and Kutucu but feels like 2 points dropped against one of the weaker teams in the league.

Coming up we face Roma @home who have struggled to find their form as of late so we will be looking to capitalise on that.

Juventus 1 - 3 Celtic

A poor poor result for us today against a Celtic team missing two key players in midfield. We saw the players missing and tried to outscore Celtic and it was totally the wrong way to go and we paid the price today.

Celtic came to us playing C and after a first half where we shaded the game, Celtic took the lead with 2 minutes to play in the half and we were chasing the game.

Into the second half and after a quiet opening, Celtic doubled their lead just past the hour mark before adding a third a minute later.

A late goal from us in the 92nd minute did nothing for us and we slumped to a bad defeat.
It seems like whenever we have a good run and close the gap on the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan above us, we find a way to stumble again.

Statistically we were the better team but only just, giving up TA to a good team like Celtic was a bad decision but a huge slice of fortune helped lose us this game.

Marseille 1 - 6 Real Madrid

Our scouting team was spot on for this one, as we predicted the home side would retain the same tactic and formation as they played during the mid week cup games. Meaning we would face an E and a 17 rated goalkeeper, with a defender for them out too. Obviously we optimised as such and I was hoping for a 9+ goal count for us. Although we did get 66 shots away, 35 of those was off target. Of course this is a ratio we cannot control. A better roll on the on/off would have resulted in a 10 goal + count so we have to be a bit disapointed on that front. Don't worry Euan, let the critisms roll off your back and I'm sure once your keeper is back and with a mix up of your tactics Marseille can climb off the bottom of the league. GG.

Next up is a tough game with ATM. They have transfered one of their injured players so their chances have improved. We have to consider if we want to play Rodrygo in this game or not with a booking seeing him miss the next 2 games including the CL Semi Final.

Atletico Madrid 7 Real Sociedad 2

One of the early season disappointing results was losing away at Sociedad. Homework helped here with Sociedad forced into a 4-3-3 formation due to a missing player. This resulted in Atletico sacrefycing a defender for an attacking player to ensure a very open game ensued. A shot count of 35-19 resulted in a big league win for the home side.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "That was a great victory that pushed us up into 07th place. The season has really changed for the better and we have Juve and Ac Milan as targets to hunt down over the coming weeks. We have taken a big advantage over the poor form of Lisbon and Lazio and have given ourselves a great chance of finishing back in the champions league places".

Bookings for Sessegnon and Frimpong will be huge absentees away to the free scoring Real Madrid side.

M_Skriniar 28 slo 1 23 17 12 27 1 110 28 752 - improved his passing to 17. He is one of the best defenders in the game now.
M_van_de_Ven 22 ned 1 21 16 13 28 1 225 779 4 improved his shooting to 13.

Minutes wise Atletico are really managing the squad well. 20/25 players have now reached their retaining minutes. R_Nainggolan will not reach his and there are plans for him to be sold prior to the transfer deadline. There are no concerns that any other player will not make their minutes.
