BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
You won’t often see a more one sided game than this, but despite all the chances we created, we couldn’t score. That’s been a feature for us this season.
Add onto that an injury to our keeper and striker then the problems were compounded. But, we certainly had games earlier in the season which went in our favour. Just hope Celtic go easy on us next game.
I don't tend to get overly annoyed when I lose games these days but some do frustrate me from time to time. Felt like we read their counter attacking approach like a book and set up well but half an hour in and we're 2 nil down. Home and tactical bonus doing us zero favours.
Thereafter we shuffled things tactically and I've no issue with conceding another couple from there on in but it's tough to compute that start to the game it really is.
Marshy has been regularly whinging in his PMR's and media that the esms gods have been against him this season so maybe they're finally listening and starting to go easy on him
I'll refrain from going full on Gaz Windebank with my moaning and say well played Marshy and good luck for the rest of the season - particularly in the Champions League
Really annoying loss this one, as a win would have put us top with the results elsewhere. I expected us to turn up and roll through Munich like a panzer tank. It didn't happen. Back to the trenches we go with the sound of Steven K bellowng "what about my unaswered question" over and over again on the way back to the front lines.
Reset and go again. We will pop our heads up over the parapet next against Leeds and hope for a better performance and result.
Indeed this one was a complete reversal of the first half to the season where both ends of the Atletico team actually worked for a change and for probably the first time in the league this season. This was a big game. After gifting the top sides victories at the Wanda Metropolitano early in the season the difficult challenge of travelling back to those clubs and grabbing something back has been presented. Atletico needed victory if they are to have any possibility of catching Barcelona in the league this season. Defeat would have left an unsurmountable 14 points. First goals are often so important as taking the lead led to gaining the tactical advantage Atletico had lost at the kick off. The start of this game felt like a 9-darter to to win against the throw and from there we were able to hold the darts for the rest of the game despite losing a finger when Paqueta was sent off.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "We edged the shot count but more importantly the gods are moving back to our side again and we gratefully request they stay with us. We are in the top 8 for the first time since Round 1. Its taken 20 rounds to get back there and a decent run of undefeated form. Hopefully we can keep it going".
Next up for Atletico is the trip to PSG, scant reward for winning Group A.
Marsh added "If we are to win trophies you have to beat the best at some point. We saw off Roma in the group states and whilst our record against PSG is not good we will give it all we have to try and advance".
Good news for the club tonight with the 10th player completing their required minutes and Musso making a 25-rated goalkeeper.
A good win for us today against a seemingly free falling Lisbon team who slumped to their 5th straight league defeat.
Onto the game and we were cautious after losing to them in the reverse fixture so we used C, while they came to fight with their surprise A tactic.
The first half hour was pretty even but the visitors took the lead shortly after and we were left chasing the game.
We switched tactics to A and were on level terms just 5 minutes later. Back to C we went as Lisbon never changed.
We had a huge break just before half time as we were awarded a penalty in the 45th minute which Joao_Felix fired into the Lisbon goal to give us the lead going into the break.
Into the second half and after a very even first half, we started to control the game and edge it and Joao_Felix completed his hat trick on 86 minutes to seal the 3 points.
Things would go from bad to worse for the travelling team as they were reduced to 10 men a minute later as S_Busquets was shown a red card.
Statistically we were the better team, good game Cheyenne
We have had mixed results of late, too many draws, too much tinkering we went back to our basics which is our strongest side and attack, just go for the throat whether countered or not by our opponents, onto the game Real Sociedad came to play anti football, locked behind a defensive wall they were clearly hoping to come away with a draw but we battered them but could not score, we went in at halftime at 0-0 and some words of encouragement seen us get a goal on the 46th minute which seen Real Sociedad actually turn up to play football and be more attacking the game then went end to end and we got a second in the 70th minute but truth be told it was a game we should have scored many more but the three points are a welcome consolation but conceding a goal on the 96th minute was poor and a complete lack of concentration which is not good enough. "Fully deserved from the lads, im not sure if we have ever beaten Roma, but we looked like an elite side today and the result was deserved, Ben Yedder netting a hat trick against his old team on debut was really something, its a result that hells us move away from being pulled into a relegation scrap, hopefully we can carry on going the right direction"
