Teamsheets MUST be in by 3pm on Game Day
BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
A big victory, away from home, against a team battling for champions league places. There are 7 teams battling for 5 places, therefore it will be an extremely interesting second half to the season.
Good game Cheyenne, some nice revenge for our cup loss
I thought Celtic might pull a little N out of the old basket, but that hasn't worked against Madrid the last few times now so was quite happy to face it, especially if it's not going to be used optimally which it wasn't. Was quite confident coming into the game and decided to rest Sterling for this one and get some mins into the legs of an 18 rater, partly also to ensure Sterling didn't get a booking that would mean he missed the CL. Celtic did well in the game stats wise, but I feel it was the quality of our shots which won through for us on the night and it was a hard fought but deserved three points.
A game against a team that always beat us and usually go all out attack, this time they came with a 6 man defence looking to counter us….perhaps a sign of respect from Derek
Just like usual in our games vs Roma, an early couple of goals for Roma scuppered our chances of getting anything from this game.
Statistically we were the better team, 11 shots on target but their GK was in fine form and Roma were clinical with 2 goals from 4 shots on target.
Good game Derek
But in response to your comments above; I promised so much? I’m not sure that’s accurate.
But considering you’ve cheated and manipulated your way to the top..and only won 2 league titles along the way you may want to look a little closer to home on that.
This one didn't start very well for us with Matip pulling up injured in the 1st minute and being replaced by unheralded youngster Sanchex. Things were still goalless at half time and at that stage it had the look of a game that could go either way but we found our shooting boots in the 2nd half to score 3 times. No doubt we deserved to win but the margin of victory is certainly harsh on the visitors.
So we sit 5th at the half way stage which is so so but with us being out of both cups it all adds up to a bit of a disappointing campaign for us to date. We've insufficient funds to have an auction bid so we'll have to sit and watch enviously as others strengthen their squads. We've a couple of possible transfer deals in the pipeline but other than that we'll be having to rely on the same group of players in the 2nd half of the season. A change of captain from Mahrez is also more than likely.
Cheers Johnboy, all the best the rest of the way.
We figured we had enough firepower to beat Leverkusen but away from home it always a risk but we went out put the pressure on and scored 4 goals in the first half with Saint Maximin scoring a first half hattrick, Leverkusen gave us a game as well and the stats were very similar with Leverkusen dominating possession but we were ruthless up top where it mattered where many times this season we have not been after dominating games so we take the three points and move on to our Champions League tie with Arsenal who are through top of the group but I don’t expect them to rest any players after our first game. With both teams chasing the half-way 08th position trophy the respective managers allowed for attacking flair. 2 early goals cancelled each out before the game became quite edgy with 5 yellow cards
Atletico boss SimonnMarsh commented “This was a big game to end the half way season in the champions league positions, unthinkable a few weeks ago. Pleased that the unbeaten run continues and keeps us fighting. We have clawed back a lot of points and right now it looks like 10 possibly 11 clubs chasing 8 positions”.
Atletico are next up away at Manchester United missing three key forwards for the game.
Marsh added “We are down to the bare bones but will pick a side to try and get a result. It’s only fair on Roma. It will be hard to find a side that has a chance of nicking a win whilst staying compact but that’s a challenge we will take on”
