For those who don’t understand why the match-up between Feyenoord and Ajax is called the classic, all they have to do is re-watch today's encounter and they’ll grasp the meaning. An evenly played match accompanied by big drama. With the Feyenoord brass breathing down manager Bucks neck, the outcome in today's meet had a great deal riding on it.
Ajax came close to taking the lead late in the first half when S_Steijn’s header caught A_Muric ball watching, luckily the ball missed the net by inches. The tub boys also came close midway in the second but Melendo’s successful lunge at the ball was spectacularly saved by A_Trubin. Relief was to come in the 76th minute, and who better that veteran striker P_Goncalves cracking a beauty of kick that sent the ball into the top corner, no chance for the keeper. With manager Buck breathing again, we were able to catch up with him in the tunnel and ask him his thoughts on the victory. His response was curt and to the point “ I hate losing more that I like winning”. Feyenoord visit Roazhon Park to play Rennes in this weekends skirmish.
Strong enough display for our standards, pleasing to turn the recent form around. But we know we've got a lot more to do.
It was more a case of us having more quality with our finishing when it mattered if I'm honest they had chances but our goalkeeper was on form today when required. It's pleasing enough, we're yo-yoing around at the minute due to the nature of the league, a few more games I think it'll settle down and we'll then find our pool so to speak.
Some good efforts today, more minutes and 3 points, can't ask for too much more.
It was a massive top of the table clash, with the two strongest squads in EF2 facing off against each other.
Sevilla went in as favourites, having the stronger team and home advantage, Fiorentina were coming in off the back of a midweek cup thrashing, so weren't very confident.
It may have been that midweek defeat however that shook away any complacency, as Fiorentina switched to a 5 man defence, they also considered changing tactics, but noticed that Sevilla often played a long ball game, so ended up sticking to their passing approach.
It was a fairly even game, with Fiorentina bossing the possession, but Sevilla creating more opportunities.
It was ex Sevilla player Nunez that proved the difference though, with a clinical finish late on, with young defender Cresswell having a good match too, and setting up the goal.
The result puts Fiorentina top of the league for the first time this season, but I'm sure there will be many more twists and turns to come, gg dude.
