The underachieving tub boys are impressively hum drum of late. With their third consecutive draw, Feyenoord have dropped down in the standings sharing seventh spot with Valencia.
This afternoons match between Benfica and Feyenoord at DeKuip was undoubtedly a cautiously played match, the stats on the whole were similar with the visitors sneaking in a little more. The only two goals of the match were spread out nicely with Feyenoord drawing firsts blood; halfback E_Elmas answering the call, putting one past Andrews in the 47th. Benfica were able to even the score in the 71st , one minute after a tactical change by manager Buck; The goal scorer T_Araujo and his one man show put an end to the vibe that was starting to permeat the grounds. The home side did attempt a last minute coup but were denied on two occasions with two impressive saves from the talented Benfica keeper, the first in the dying minutes of the second with P_Goncalves blasting a beauty from 20 yards out, the second a low drive by defender D_Hancko with two minutes remaining.
On the other hand some positive news, Q_Timber and O_Idrissi are getting the job done, both lads have shown a great deal discipline on the pitch and are proving to be role models for many of the players.
How we lost, I don't know but it's evident that we need better quality in this side, across the team we will need improvements. The one thing we had running for us was our home form but now we've lost that (or atleast the undefeated run), it's now about finding a way to win matches. We know we can't out play teams, we know we need a major recruitment overhaul for that as the worst side in the league for sure. But keep going, and hopefully we'll find a bit of fortune and form.
But on the game, we did everything we could, and luck wasn't with us is all we can say.
Yes, you read that right, Fiorentina hit seven goals away from home. The late match report likely due to the massive booze up the squad were allowed to go on to celebrate. It is believed manager Kirby won the award for drinking most without throwing up.
Jovic hits 4, Dembele hits another 2! Nunez with the other. The deadly front line had a field day.
This comes after rumours that Jovic and Dembele were nearly sold in midweek, perhaps they wanted to reward their manager for keeping faith in them.
In truth it was a good performance, but not a seven nil performance, with twenty of the twenty seven shots being on target, and seven of them hitting the net.
The top two of Sevilla and Fiorentina have opened up a little gap at the top, which isn't too surprising given they had the two highest wage bills in the division. Next week sees them face off against each other in a fascinating match.
