Teamsheets MUST be in by 3pm on Game Day
BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
To lose this game with Lisbon going down to 10 men is gutted, we couldn’t finish our chances and for once ter Stegen had an off day. Only saving 1 shot and giving away a penalty.
good game Hollis, this one is a tough loss to take!
I'm going to be sick of the sight of PSG this season, I'm sure of it. Lined up our strongest formation, but never got to implement our game plan as PSG took a big early lead after they expertly countered us with N. 1-4 down, we pulled it back to 3-4 at half time, but PSG further added salt to the wounds by pulling away in the 2nd half with two more goals. If we lost the TA it wasn't going to be pretty, and it wasn't. Fair play Ed, nicely done. I'm hoping for an all DA quarter final lol.
Our opponents class showed in the end as we made a good game of it in the first half, but Inter controlled the game in the second half and rightly go through to the next round.
Going in at half time level was a big bonus for us and well deserved, especially after going behind on 16 minutes, but conceding 2 goals in the first 4 minutes of the second half really knocked the stuffing out of us and we never really recovered from then on and Inter went on to comfortably move into the next round of the competition where we wish them well.
It was a rough game all around, but a win is a win. To keep things so close down a man allowed us to stay in the game, which is all you can hope for under the circumstances. Only Milan's second loss all year so this is certainly a big victory.
As I said in a previous PMR, we’re not clicking right now and this game shows that.
We came into the game against a team in a lower league and we played our attacking line up but struggled once again.
Two more errors in my sheet meant 2 players shifted immediately from the position I’d wanted them to play, more effort is needed on and off the pitch.
Only the game and a positive, passing Valencia were arguably the better team and gave us some scares until they eventually took the lead on 42 minutes. We were left heading in at half time a goal down and looking around wondering what to do.
Into the second half and we started to edge it, taking control of the game from Valencia but as time ticked by we were still behind.
With less than 10 minutes left to play, we FINALLY scored to save ourselves the embarrassment of being knocked out by a team in the second tier, but we weren’t done then.
A second penalty in as many games gave us the chance to clinch a place in the final 8 and Joao_Felix took that chance and fired us into the quarter finals.
Statistically we were the better team and deserved the win but I feel for Valencia who almost had us.
This competition hasn’t ever been one that we’ve done well in so due mainly to favourable draws we’ve made it into the later stages where we’ll no doubt come up against one of the top teams remaining.
Our reward for knocking out the holders in their own backyard was the toughest possible tie away to the Spanish giants of Madrid. We went into the game without our best defender, Saliba and facing home advantage, so were not expecting to progress any further. We tried to do something a little unexpected and unorthodox by playing our DMs and AMs slightly out of position in order to maximise any tactical advantage that we could grab. Had our hosts played anything other than A or E i have no doubt we would have been on the end of a drubbing. In games against Steve, they tend to be a case of "first goal winner" as we are both typically able to effectively manage the game once leading. Crazily, we found ourselves 3 goals up inside the first fifteen minutes, with a goal each in the sixteenth minute. At 1-4 we were cruising, but our opponents dug deep and managed to get two back before the break, giving us the slenderest of leads against a team with the momentum. Half time could come quick enough to give us chance to regroup. We managed to get the first goal after the break and extend the margin back to two, before Ramos finally put the game out of reach in the 77th minute with his third goal, and second hat-trick of the season. Ramos was deservedly awarded the man on the match award. The game stats suggest a dominant performance, but in reality there was no more than a goal difference in the quality of ot the teams on the pitch - we clearly got the rub of the green here, but i will take the win. I am sure that at some point our rivals will get the upper hand and get a few wins against us. Goog game, and unlucky SteveT
Our reward for knocking out the next strongest team in the competition, is again the toughest possible tie away to the strongest opponent left in the competition, Sporting Lisbon, who are the only other unbeaten team in the top tiers, across all competitions, making it an away tie in every round.
we were not sure what to expect, Atalanta were not in round three on merit they deserved to be there and are flying high in division 2 so we went there and respected the team and ability, we kept five at the back and the game was sketchy ending the half 1-1, a few words at halftime as the players looked nervous of making a mistake and we came out firing, scoring four goals and in truth dominating the game as Atalantas fitness started to wane, its a good result in a tricky tie and im sure Gary will have them promoted to EFL 1 next season. gg mate
