Teamsheets MUST be in by 3pm on Game Day
BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
A fairly mixed bag of cauctiousness and attack from us today, hoping to snag the TA at various points of the game I hoped PSG would flip. We did end up with some TA and had a strong A v P or C v C for most of the rest of it, but neverthless it wasn't enough at all today to overide HA and a strong PSG team. I don't belive there's much between the two teams on paper, a slight edge to PSG maybe, aside from the HA which gave PSG the advantage in this one but I'm surprised about how bad we got beat on the shot count considering. We got a bit of a bottom smacking but we won't let it bother us as this was pretty much a shot to nothing for us this early in the groups. GG Ed, a strong win for you, well played. Long way to go though yet.
Roma were strong out of the traps and Mbappe opened the scoring after early pressure. Both sides exchanged attacks but the game changed when Atletico made the call to attack and Mancini become the unlikely man to equalise. Four minutes later Vinicius put the away side 1-2 up. Some late changes shored up the Atletico defence and they held out for a very important victory.
Marsh commented "We were a bit fortunate to win the game but we matched Roma more or less shot for shot and the luck we are lacking in the domestic campaign we maybe got back a little this evening".
A fairly cautious approach by both teams although we created the more chances and the 2-0 victory thanks to two first half strikes from my lads gave us what was probably a deserved victory. A tough group this one so we will savour any victory that comes our way as PSG look capable of walking it.
Marshy is one of the top EFL managers in my book. And is building a strong team.
So I knew this would be a tough game and was pleased we got our noses in front. But when Madrid gave up their defensive approach and attacked us they got back into the game.
Even stats so a little disappointed to lose this one.
Round 1 of 5 (0r 6? Or 7?) and the first of three over a nine day period. In games such as this one, first goal is often very important as it sets the tone for the rest of the game. We started facing tactical advantage, but managed to get our noses in front. I think our visitors only had Tactical advantage for 18 minutes, but we never had it throughout the game. Nevertheless the stats suggest a dominant performance. However, as our opposition manager states, there wasn’t such a gulf between the teams. I would probably expect a single goal victory based upon the player ratings, and we were riding the luck bus. Good game Steve, and you will have plenty of opportunities to get your revenge this season.
Some decent abs with Lamptey hitting 20-19 and our GK and Ramos slowly getting near. They probably wont make it for the next CL game, but hopefully should be there for the back half of the group games
Happy to be leading the group and would have taken 4 points from our opening 2 home games, although would have expected the 3 points in our first match. Villa beating Chelsea opens the group up and we need to ensure we get at least 3 points from the double header against Villa to remain in the qualification slots before facing 2 tough away games.
Back to back defeats away to a rebuilding team....JB making me question myself in this game, the Bayern fans heard singing 'Can we play you every week?'.....Embarrassing.
Both teams set up with 5-1-0-0-4 P and within 16 minutes, the hosts were a goal to the good and we were yet again chasing the game.
Within 2 minutes, we were level and looked to push on in the game, however despite being the better team for the rest of the half it was Bayern who went into the break a goal ahead as they made it 2-1 on the stroke of half time.
Into the second half and within 5 minutes Bayern had doubled their lead and sealed all 3 points.
Despite having spells in the rest of the game, we didn't come close to getting back into the game and ran out 3-1 losers.
Statistically it was a dead even game so to lose 3-1 we feel hard done by and are now looking where to go from here.
This felt like a bit of a must win after the 1st round of group games. Inter are a team that we always seem to lose against no matter how well we play so I can’t say I was confident.
Expected to face what we faced tactically etc given how well it did for Inter away to Arsenal but stuck with a passing approach and thankfully it paid dividends on this occasion. The stats suggest we were worthy of the win.
With Arsenal winning against City the group is nicely poised with all teams on 3 points. It’s going to be as competitive as I expected.
Next up it’s the first Clasico of the season with both teams at full strength.
We countered Barca from the start but you would never have known as the stats suggest a one sided affair, we did nothing in this game and rightfully left with nothing, credit to Barca, usually when im countered at home i get beat but here we are countering away and still getting beat so just shows you it means nothing, Barca could have won by more tbh we just did not show up and After the beating we gave the English Torino i expect better. GG mate and well played
After the ridiculous score line in the first game, we needed something from this which was easier said than done when we had a team like Man City up next but we managed a good win and with the other game going our way, all teams now sit on three points. A really tough group so whoever makes it through would have really have had to earn it but we now look at game three and hop to get something from that.
