one of those games, Milan kicked us off the park and our keeper went off injured in the 27th minute so it was always going to be an uphill battle from there but we completely outplayed them and had enough chances to score but just never took them and that’s the difference at this level. I’m sure Jason will be happy at both the result and fact he got a PMR for a change, for us I’m disappointed we never converted our chances. GG
The Derby della Madonnina. One of the most sort after fixtures in Italy. Milan is painted red once more.
We kicked them off the park, literally, and come away with a 10 point lead over our stadium rivals. Each season we hear of inters progress, but looking down the table, only 2 wins in 6, it is clear to see which way that progress is going.
Meanwhile at the top are Hopton’s Milan, and a rejuvenated Lisbon under Hollis. Certainly will be a battle for that top 8 this season, some teams will miss out, could it be Inter? It will definitely be Munich. Change of the old guard is taking place, in with the new.
Derby day in the EFL1 with both the Madrid and Milan derbys on the same day. This was a very tough away game fixture and I'd have been content with a draw. We mixed things up here with the old European style of play and perhaps took the element of suprise over Atletico who played on the counter. We took the lead through Doku who has been outshined by Rodrygo so far this season, but today he made sure he had his own time in the sun. Madrid mostly had the tactical advantage in this one, although Atletico flirted with it for 5 minute spells for a period in the second half as they tried to find a working formula. Atletico got a man sent off and that made it a little easier for us, as we finished strong and scored a second goal through Sterling right before the final whistle. A very close game, and a hard earned three points over a good team. GG Marshy.
Surprised by Napoli’s tactics, going D in the first minute. With us playing a C it was never going to be an exciting game. Arguably a better point for us that keeps us in the top eight. A positive and negative came from the game. Sangare uprated his tackling but Juranovic got a red so we miss him for the next game.
Played Chris.
Nothing is changing fast for Atletico who cannot catch a break this season. A 20-18 shot count returned another 0 points. Another good performance considering the home side were down to 10-men on 60 minutes.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "Not much else to say. We could have had 18 points from the first 6 games, we should have had 14 but we actually have only 6".
GG Steve.
The depressing season continues with a trip to RBL without suspended Skriniar
Another big win for us against a strong but struggling Rangers team.
We opted to go at Rangers with A and they matched us with an A tactic of their own an instantly we punished them going 1-0 up in the first minute.
The visitors didn't waste time in getting back in the game as they made it 1-1 after just 8 minutes and we had it all to do again.
We had the better of the rest of the half but we couldn't find a way through the Rangers defence as we went in at half time drawing 1-1.
Into the second half and we controlled the first 15 minutes but somehow didn't make the break through, but on 66 minutes we went ahead for the second time in the game with a goal from substitute J_Timber who'd just come on.
We doubled our lead on 72 minutes and then Rangers switched up to E giving us TA for the remaining minutes as we went on to add a 4th & 5th late on.
Statistically we were the better team, again not by 4 goals however we'll take a win against a team who beat us last season.
Going into the game, our hosts were the only team to beat us in a run of 41 games extending back to Round 15 of Season 2. However they took a rather cautious approach opting for the counter attack tactic rather than their usual passing style. We simply played the same sheet that got us a victory in the domestic cup, opening up as the game progressed. The game was extremely even, with both defences coming out on top, tackling half of the chances created. A draw was probably the correct result.
We would have taken a draw before the game. We lose top spot, but have acquired 3 more points than we did from the same fixture last season. GG Livi
We lost narrowly to PSG's ultra negative 7 man defensive counter attacking approach in the cup so we weren't falling into that trap again and matched their C tactic but with a 42112 set up.
It was actually a reasonable game for a goalless draw with a good few chances and unquestionably the draw was the right outcome. It's not a brilliant result for us but it's far from a disaster against a team that probably only 2 or 3 of our players would get into.
It's been an interesting start to the league season with a couple of surprise packages leading the way and we're content enough with how we've performed in our first 6 games.
