    AC Milan 1-1 Sevilla

Lady luck is shining our way at the moment, we accidentally re-sent the sheet from our league match rather than the cup one. Sorry Alfredo.

with that in mind. To win on penalties was pure luck and more than we deserved

Sevilla are one of the better teams in league 2 and I cannot afford anymore of these mistakes.

Round 3 we go. Good game Alfredo and sorry once again for the missheet, not that it helped me.

      Inter Milan 1 - 0 Lazio

The score line flatters Lazio we put in a great display and controlled the game from start to finish the only thing that let it down was only one goal, Lazio is a tricky team with Windy in charge we were not sure what to expect but based on previous results we figured they would either start C or N and lucky for us the guess was correct, we advance to the next round via a Gnabry goal which i am more than happy about as the last two seasons we have went out in round one, we look forward to the next round. gg mate

        Monaco 2 - 1 Rangers

Started of well with a penalty on the 38th minute but soon as we had a man sent off we went down hill so that's us out the cup already

Sporting Lisbon 1 Atletico Madrid 1 (3-1 penalties)

Welcome to the Atletico EFL cup roundabout - win the first game, draw a tough top flight side away from home and then promptly exit the tournament!

Atletico faced the trip to a Sporting side rejuvenated by Cheyenne Hollis this season. They won the close season cup and won every game in the league so far. Hollis clearly is not all talk. Sporting on the day did enough in normal and extra time to win the game with a shot count of 17-11. However, with the game going to penalties it was a time to reset. Atletico's 23 22 19 19 12 going up against Sporting's 22 21 18 18 13. Sporting with edge in goalkeeping 24v25. Atletico's 23-rated Vinicius missed and Lopes saved both Chukuweze (19) and Paqueta (19) to end a penalty shootout nightmare for the away side.

Marsh commented "Bloody hell. Pretty sick of this competition in truth. The draw has been an utter frustration but its about time we nicked one and advanced to latter rounds. Its lost game time, lost development and a shot at medals and prize money disappears again".

Asked whether Marsh got his selection correct he added "Fundamentally I made a poor error not anticipating extra time and having brought a couple of weaker players on from the bench we were not as good as what we could have been. Had we brought on Huber and Nainggolan we may have won it before the shootout. Its been a tough few days off the field so I wont be too hard on myself but its frustrating all the same".

          GG Mr Hollis

Sporting 1 Atletico Madrid 1 (Sporting win on penalties)

Atletico is a cagey side, so the focus today was to keep it tight and see what happens. To that end, we played better than expected overall. I mean, Lewandowski had ten shots. For him not to score is undoubtedly the reason the game went to extra time. It was also nice to see Coutinho get on the scorer's list after a fairly disappointing start to the season. We will wait to see who the draw picks out in the next round but as many managers can attest to, simply getting to round 3 is an accomplishment in and of itself.

              Feyenoord 0 - 2 Anderlecht

Kudos to Anderlecht on a job well done. No excuses, simply we were not up to the task this past Wednesday, our opponents out-played us. It's time to regroup and look ahead, not back.

                Hibernian 4-1 Sociedad

Speechless.... we dominated, we created more yet a team with 15 raters upfront battered us. Definitely extra training this week. Miserable result!

                  Rennes 3-2 PSV Eindhoven

Our cup results continue to be better than our league results.
We made home advantage count in a fairly even game. Having been 3-1 ahead we were brought back to 3-2 and I was concerned we would blow a 3-1 lead for the second time in a week but we held on to progress to the next round l.
Good performances across the pitch so we can only be happy with the outcome.

                    Roma 0 4 Madrid

Got the predictable N from the former great team. And so we edged the stats with a greater shot count. But the previously impenetrable Courtois had a disastrous night. Facing 8 shots he conceded 4.

Our superstar forward lineup couldn't convert any chances with Mbappe failing at his first major game of the season.

Credit to The Ruthless One for not pulling up the draw bridge after scoring their first goal. Although in hindsight I'd have preferred that.

Guess we'll have to be content with the double this season.

                    gg Steve

                      Marseille 0 - 4 Juventus

Up against a team who have struggled so far this season so we looked to inflict further misery on them by going at them with an A tactic.

They rolled out an A tactic of their own and after an opening period where neither team took control of the game, it was J_Gvardiol who put us into the lead on 18 minutes quickly followed by another from S_Gimenez.

Despite the two goal lead, Marseille were always in the game but couldn’t seem to land their shots on target as we headed into half time 2 goals to the good.

Into the second half and while the game continued to be fairly even, it was us who kept on scoring.

A third from S_Gimenez on 55 minutes led to a period between 60 & 77 minutes where we had total dominance, adding a 4th through Joao_Felix’s first goal of the campaign.

We ran out 4-0 winners and progress into the next round where we’re likely to be drawn against a very strong team but for now we’re happy to have won this one.

Statistically it was fairly even with us shading possession and shots on target.

                      Good game Euan

                        Roma 0 - 4 Real Madrid

Before the match we was saying "What if?".

What if we could beat Roma in the cup, that would sure be embarassing for Roma after they had spent the entire buildup to the game running down the status of Real Madrid. Egg squarely splatted on Derek's face after this result.

A tactical masterclass as Derek would say. Real put the fake ageing galaticos to the sword and for the 2nd season in a row dumped them out of a cup on their own ground. Not many teams will enjoy 62% possession at the Stadio Olimpico, but Madrid did, as we all made it look in the end quite comfortable.

The treble for you Derek will have to wait for another season. GG.

                          Barcelona 0 PSG 1

Always disappointing to go out of any cup competition - as holders our grip on this one didn't last very long!

In fairness a tough draw for us but other than the penalty we conceded there was nothing in the game and we certainly gave as good as we got. No point overanalyzing things, these ties are often decided by fine margins and we've had plenty go our way over the years so we can't complain.

Time to concentrate on the league and Champions League.
