    Barnsley 3-2 Aston Villa

The seasons curtain raiser so everyone hoping for a positive start. For us some positives as well as negatives, we went ahead twice in the game to get pegged back on each occasion, we also more than did enough to take something away from the tie but it was a very late goal that was our undoing. Our shots on target ratio today was diabolical and is probably what cost us the game as well as our GK being a jerk. Hope its not a sign of things to come.

      Chelsea 0-2 MANCHESTER UNITED

We couldn't have really started with many tougher games and in truth the team played exceptionally well, and I felt we showed and set a great foundation for the season to come. We started the better and felt the goal would come eventually. We stuck to our game plan and got our rewards. Of course the red card changed the game a little, despite our dominance, but once it was 11 vs 10 we made the extra man count and got 2 deserved goals.

There was some very good displays cross the team, and we feel we have a capable squad this season who will get chopped and changed over the campaign. As you saw today we opted for the back 5, but we have different options we can use and different players in different systems and more importantly, when everyone is fit, artillery from the bench.

        Sheffield Wednesday 0

        Booked: E_Dier (36), A_Webster (70)

        Wolves 0

        Booked: M_Caqueret (21), J_Moder (53)

        MotM: A_Ramsdale (Wolves)
        HT: 0-0

It really says it all about a game when the MotM award goes to a keeper. Fair play to Aaron Ramsdale though he deserved the accolade after saving nine shots on goal to also claim a clean sheet. Not a huge amount between the two sides as Wolves edged possession, whereas Sheffield Wednesday carved out the better chances. A point away from home for the first game of the season isn't too bad so we take it and move on to the FA Cup game against League One side Charlton Athletic.

        Played Mike, good game.

          Barnsley 3-2 Aston Villa

A great if somewhat fortunate start to the season sees us take the 3 points, our form at Oakwell is going to be very important if we are to survive in the Premier league of that there is no doubt so starting with a win is very good. A draw would probably have been a fair result as Villa led twice however goals from Delort and Kent got us level before a 95th minute winner from that man Ryan Kent saw us take a vital 3 points towards our 40 point target.

            Chelsea 0 - 2 Manchester United

Lost the goals after the sending off of my defender, otherwise we would have got something from the game Im sure. Very difficult result to take, especially first match of the season, but we move on. Well done mate.

Excellent start to the season and a bonkers game to kick things off. We were absolutely top notch today and fully deserved this comprehensive win. Hat trick for debutant Oshimen is a big positive. Now to try and avoid defeat in our bogey competition the FA cup.

                Arsenal 2 - 0 Everton

The first game of the season finally arrived and Everton were first up for Arsenal who for once were hoping to start the season off with a win and they got exactly what they set out for with a 2-0 win thanks to a debut goal for Alexander Isak and a first of the season for Federicho Chiesa.

                A tough fixture to start the season off but a challenge they managed to get the better of. Two early goals took the wind out of Everton sails and set the Gunners up for a first win of the season with them Arsenal playing a side that included four new signings, mainly three in defence. A happy Arsenal Manger spoke after the game ;

" The main thing for us today was to try and get off to a good start after seasons of starting badly and we managed that with a good performance and win. The two early goals certainly helped, pleasing to see both strikers getting in on the goals and a clean sheet at the back so all in all, a good first game of the season. We wish Will and his Everton side the best of luck for the season ".

Meanwhile, with a win over Everton in the bag, Arsenal face the red side of Merseyside in the FA Cup first round next up.
