Feyenoords 1-3 loss to Sunderland at De Kuip spells the hosts first loss in their last six matches. The pride of the south were able to accumulate a total of 16 points in their run, catapulting them into 7th spot. Sunderlands much needed win this afternoon is no doubt a break in the clubs poor form of late, their last win was week 26 when they beat valencia 1-0. Feyenoord have their work cut out for them as they travel to Estadio El Madrigal to play Villarreal in their next match. Good news, the one match ban to both Melendo and J_Rasmussen is over, the duo are expected to suit up for their clubs encounter with the Yellow Submarine on Tuesday.
Our attacking players got in the groove today with two goals each from Suso and Faivre. We're still a little patched up at the moment, but we're just biding our time in the markets. After being rooted to the bottom of the league we are now up into 12th and hopefully looking at those ahead of us in the league now.
The game started with both sides opting for a counter attacking style which led to a fairly lacklustre game especially from us. We did though manage to get the first breakthrough on 37 minutes but that triggered a change of tactic from both sides that worked against us. Cardiff had the better of things from that point and drew level before deservedly grabbing the winner with 20 minutes remaining
No shame on losing to a vastly superior team. It isn’t a game I expected to get much out of. We tried to set up to be hard to beat and we played our part in a pretty drab contest. Some useful minutes for squad players is about all we can take out of this one unfortunately.
Played Sam, deserved three points for you.
Season 2 Premier League Champions - Leeds
Season 2 Conference Champions - Porto
A good game, especially for the neutrals.
Not much between the teams except for match winner Gomez who went home with the match ball.
Norwich took the lead in the 13th minute when Areola couldn't quite keep out a shot from Gomez.
We created a couple of chances but Norwich had the better of the game and doubled their lead just before half time, again Gomez was the scorer after escaping his marker.
Within 2 minutes of the restart though we got ourselves back into the game when Rebic got on the end of a great cross and planted a header into the Norwich net.
The game took a dip during which both sides made substitutions but sprang into life in the 66th minute when Gomez completed his hat-trick. We brought on forward Wind for the last 15 minutes and his cross was met by Rebic to score his second of the game in the 85th minute. It was an interesting last 10 minutes but Norwich held on for the win.
"Always have a soft spot when I return to Porto, some of the best fans in the world, I think Tim is doing his side a disservice in this one, Porto are a strong team who have played well all season and came up against a recently depleted Celtic side with the sale of Tadic and Werner over the weekend not to mention that Richarlison got injured halfway through the game... Porto could have got something from this game and on another day they might have, its a very tough place to come and get anything from so 3 points and a clean sheet is something we are very pleased with."
The winning run comes to an end, but fair enough up against a good side.
We knew what to expect, and on another day would probably have won, but weren't as clinical as usual, gg Kels
Whilst it extends the lead at the top, Celtic edge nearer, and we have some tricky games still to play, Valencia away next is tough, then Celtic themselves. I suspect it's going to be a nail biter come the end of the season.
