Teamsheets MUST be in by 3pm on Game Day
BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
Solid performance sees the treble seeking Galacticos win their 9th game in a row. A cagey start saw both teams playing C - although Lisbon were disadvantaged with their setup.
The half-time switch to A gave us 2 quick goals as we took the attack to the toothless lions.
It will be interesting to see if the PSG manager insults the Rangers manager who gifted him an E away from home.
Juve are now out of sight down in 3rd so top 2 looking assured.
Just a question of trying to catch PSG who seem to be getting all the tactical gifts atm.
A bit of a robbery means we walk away with just the point which is annoying but the league isn't important to us for the next few games as Champions League qualification for next season is assured and we must concentrate on what we still have a chance with and not worry if we drop a place or two in the table.
Our DP situation is crazy (again) and we are having to navigate our way through it with the Champions League Semi in mind. That said, we put in a team that could have easily won 2-4 here, as the stats show we again doubled a teams shots but only drew with a 13-27 shot count.
PSG 8 Rangers 0
Extremely harsh result on Burrows. We typically score each 7-8 shots, so 3-0 would be a fair reflection based on the stats, but their GK has had a woeful game conceding 8 from 18 shots faced. A rare clean sheet from our GK, but tbf he didnt have a great deal to do, only facing 3 shots. Had hoped for a couple of defenders to level up, but they also had a very quiet game. Lamptey arrives before our next game, which will hopefully make us more solid at the back, and enable Rice to play in his natural position for the first time this season. Also contemplating the recall of our loans for a little more cover.
GG and unlucky Aaron
Both teams started cautiously with counter-attacking tactics. Juventus had the better of the few opportunities early on and Madrid changed to a passing style. This had little impact in opening the game up and rather surprisingly Juve never altered from their countering with no strikers when they needed a victory to keep up their slim title chances. A 0-0 dour game was played out - Juve had the better of the game but Atletico defenders were on top of their game. One could argue a good point for both sides looking to finish as high up the league as possible, but this makes the title race down to 2 teams with Juve's slight chance gone.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "We will take the point at a great side and manager but despite a wonderful haul of 58 points from 30 games we sit 15 points behind PSG. Our initial goal was always to qualify for the champions league and we achieved that in season 1 ahead of time. The second goal was to become a consistent champions league side and we look to be on the brink of our 4th qualification in succession. We have gradually climbed the table too each season and to hold onto 5th would be our best yet. The next target is the head scratching one - catching the top clubs. The best sides get the most money and win games heavily so are just pulling away season on season. The only way to catch them is in the transfer market but I dont have daytime job where I can sit making transfers all day like some managers appear to be able to do. No wonder this country is in a mess! We will battle on but it looks like cup trophies have to be the hope rather than league titles".
D_Dumfries is the latest player to miss action following his 5th booking of the season.
I will happily take a 1-1 draw based on that info. It was a one sided game and we have got lucky with the point. But interestingly it keeps us relatively close to the champions league spots… could we?
A tough task for Sociedad made all the harder by the 3 players they had out including their starting GK.
Sociedad scored early and understandably immediately rolled out the D and although it took us a while to equalise we went in at the break at 1-1 and confident we would take control in the 2nd half. That confidence grew when Sociedad immediately went down to 10 men and after the hour mark the goals finally started to flow for us. All our front men got in amongst the goals which is pleasing and even the yellow card for Pedri was perfect as he'll miss a game that we would have been resting him for anyway.
Tough game away to Monaco next, we always struggle there and playing several back ups won't help.
With three key players missing including our keeper we set up to attack from the first minute and got ourselves into a 1-1 draw soon on.
Ruben Semedo then put us in serious trouble with a stupid sending off.
With an 18 rater in goal it was always going to be incredibly tricky and Barca made us pay.
Can’t really blame the team, up against a top side with a class manager, with several players missing then a sending off it was probably inevitable.
Well played Graeme, good luck for the run in.
Statistically it was an even match so a draw is a fair result. Schalke have done well in previous matches against a couple of the big dogs in the division, so I was hoping we would carry that momentum into this match which was arguably more important for us. Our attack was missing for a second consecutive match which is major cause for concern. Castellanos has hit a run of poor form and our squad feels it.
Two points clear of relegation but five off the pace for complete safety. Now is as a good a time as any to start a run of form.
We didnt know Sevilla manager quit the game before our game, we had a great performance at home, not to be unexpected under the circumstances but we laboured to actually put the ball in the net today, eventually we got the goal through new DM Kamara on the 50th minute and Son ended the game on 62nd minute but another game we should perhaps be scoring goals, always sad to lose a manager especially just before a game.
