Barcelona 2 Sporting Lisbon 2 (4-2 on pens)
An exciting game of plenty chances that ebbed and flowed throughout. We trailed early, but went 2-1 ahead with a Saint_Maximin double before Lisbon levelled to take it into extra time.
Extra time came and went and so it was onto the lottery of a penalty shoot out. Our record in those is pretty grim but on this occasion lady luck was on our side (as often seems to be the case when we play Lisbon) and we triumphed 4-2 with young Pedri slotting in the all important pen. Tough one to take for Gaz and his troops, penalties is a particularly painful way to lose but I do feel we were the better side on the day. We've certainly done it the hard way having faced PSG, Real Madrid and Roma on the way to the final.
This is a competition I've been desperate to win as it completes the full set of trophies in my time here with a league success and 2 Champions League triumphs. We've lost in 3 previous EFL finals so it's a huge relief to finally get this one in the bag. Plus it's Barca's first bit of silverware in FFO2 so happy days.
Genuinely gutted for Gaz as I know this will have hurt. Sorry mate.
