BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
As per recent games we found ourselves in a hole and having to fight our way out of it. 0-2 down early on, we drew back level to 2-2 soon enough and a win should have been on the cards - but somehow the winner just did not come. 35-12 on shots should bring you 3 points but looks like the off target God's was against us today with 21 shots off target for us while Marseille got 8 from 12 on target. 2 points dropped for sure.
PSG went top of the EFL but scoring 3 goals against one of the best sides in EFL was pleasing to see from Leipzig. It wasn't long before the French side took the lead and went 4-1 up just before half time, Chalobah scoring for Leipzig. More goals came in the second half which in fact Leipzig drew 2-2 with goals from on loan Costa and defender Izzo so not at all that bad and looking good for the Championship next season.
Freddie is doing a great job at Sociedad but was missing a striker coming into this game, as were Leverkusen. This led to an AvA set up which proved pretty even, the first goal came through the clinical finish by defender NKoulou for his 5th goal of the season, and this led to a switch to E by Freddie.
You would think this leads to domination for Leverkusen to see out the rest of the game but this was not the case. Switching to D late on left us clinging onto the game whilst Sociedad applied late pressure, but fortunately our keeper had a fantastic game and has rated up on the back of this.
The stats show the two sides were inseparable for most of the game, but the slightly better players of Leverkusen led to them taking all 3 points.
Really gutted about this result to be honest. We gave Leverkusen a real battle and it was a very even game. Not sure if I made the correct tactical decision to get E at 0-1 down but you live and you learn! Jason's team are a classy outfit and he's building a great squad there which unfortunately had a bit more quality than us. Tough game next against Inter away at the San Siro but we beat them before and will be looking to do that again. Dolberg is back which is massive for us given his excellent goal scoring form.
Played Jason, good game.
Felt we deserved a point in this one. We overcame a 1 goal deficit 3 times with Castellanos securing the point with just under 3 minutes to play in regulation. We had a slight edge in possession, a credit to having TA for large chunks of the match. Javi Martinez was our best player, scoring his 2nd goal in 4 matches since signing from Inter.
We've managed 4 points out of the last possible 6, moving back into a safe spot on the table. Still lots to play, on to the next.
PSG 6 RB Leipzig 3
Comprehensive display and a decent performance from Felix for a change. He has been frustrating this season as i fully expected him to have broken 23,500 by captain change, but looking highly unlikely. Played extremely open, and took a calculated gamble, opting for 31032A at 2 up and 30232A at 3 up in an attempt to get some stopping practice for my goalkeeper to try and give him some confidence. Wasnt a great idea in hindsight, with him conceding 3 goals for 13 shots faced, and collecting a measly 20 abs. He really is a jekell and hyde player, whom i cannot trust. ESR managed to finally catch the other 5 midfielders by levelling up to 21.
All change at the top of the table, as we take our turn at the summit. Some massive games coming up - R20 v Real Madrid, and R21 v Roma. Will be interesting to see how the table looks at the half way stage.
If anyone wants the knowledge to beat Roma all the time just reach out to me and i can get you on my weekly newsletter, gives a great insight into tactical ability and how to continue to beat superstar teams Derek has, rememeber you dont have to be better than everyone, just Derek
We attacked them from the start with 3 strikers, as we have nothing to fear against Roma, we took the lead and held it, countering them and having a couple more chances with the Inter defence rolling back the years to the days the club invented the Catenaccio, a well won three points to beat our slump and put us about 10+ up in heads to heads with Derek. GG mate
We came into this one on the back of a midweek defeat in Leeds, while Sevilla came into it struggling for results this season despite having a decent squad and a GK who rated up to 23 rated in their last game, so we knew that they'd be difficult to break down.
I had a feeling that we'd be facing a C/D combo but trusted our P, in the end this gave us TA as our hosts played N.
Sevilla switched between N and C every 15 minutes, with TA going from one team to another and after a first half where we edged the stats, we went into the break level.
It was starting to look like a boring 0-0 draw but just short of the hour mark, Antony gave us the lead and we went on the hunt for more.
2 minutes later, Sevilla matched us with an A tactic of their own but with 10 minutes remaining, it was us who scored the games' second goal to seal all 3 points through Y_Adli.
Statistically Sevilla edged the game and will surely be cursing our GK for making 14 saves and winning us the game.
It's been a long time coming but we finally get ourselves a win. It was a pretty good performance the majority of which was against the home/tactical bonus. Saint_Maximin continuing to do well with another couple of goals.
Got to try and build on this as results of late just haven't been acceptable. Decisions to make for our next game as the cup semi final with Roma is looming large and we need to make sure we are as strong as possible for that one. Might give GS a tinkle to get a few tips on how to put Mr Hughes back in his box.
A comeback to earth result following the midweeks highs of beating Man City. Monaco changed their normal tactics which we take as a compliment. Monaco scored with the first attack of the game and the score never changed. Once again Atletico are struggling in front of goal with one of the weakest goals scored columns in the league now.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "Three defeats from 4 games in the league has seen us pegged back and its a tight affair with 12 sides chasing the top-8. The top 4 have broken away so we sit in the pack jostling for position. We need better quality and will keep looking to the transfer market to try and improve".
No players improved this week.
Breaking news : Musso SIGNS. A late deal was agreed last night between Sevilla and Atletico that saw Oblak and Musso trade sides. Musso is seen as a slight upgrade
Following the disappointing result in Milan, but also unbeated qualification from our DPT group we changed things around slightly for the visit of Atletico with Arthur and Jovetic dropping back into their more natural midfield roles.
We took the lead in the second minute of the match as central defenders Smalling and Coates combined to give Coates his fourth goal of the season.
With recent performances in mind I was fully expecting to throw this match away but our defence and goalkeeper held firm for more than 90 minutes, while we were also able to get some game time into the legs of some of our squad players.
A good bank balance ahead of the upcoming auction means we can look to add to the squad in the coming weeks, while quarter-final matches against AC Milan give us a chance to get revenge for the defeat in the league as we look to secure DPT qualification again next season.
Good game Marshy, good luck for the rest of the season.
a relatively controlled display, plenty of possession, plenty of shots, and a mom performance fron aouar,
we pressed at the right times and got the result, its a result that keeps us floating in and around the CL spots, Mbappe the rogue has another goal to his name, is scoring more now,
up next, champions elect?
we wont look at winning that, more like an arse kicking,,,
