Schalke 1 PSG 2
Yet another lacklustre performance. We played one of the weakest sides in the league, who also had their best player out, and as expected, our keeper had a mare and conceded within 8,minutes. Surprisingly, our hosts continued with their Attacking tactic and we managed to haul ourselves level on 11 minutes. We managed to get our noses in front before half time, but our lead always looked extremely vulnerable as Schalke continued to changed things around. I fully expected them to score, but surprisingly we managed to hold on for our first win in 4 games. Unfortunately the victory comes at a cost as we now find ourselves without Yeremy Pino for 2 crucial games - away to ATM in the CL, and a league game v barca, whom we never beat.
good game, and unlucky, Chris
An absolutely brilliant result for us. An end to end game swung back and by in each side’s favour but with ten minutes to go Ibrahim Konate stepped up with a cracking drive to send us home to Spain with three points. He’s quickly becoming an indispensable player for us. With several sides around us picking up points it makes this win all the more important. AC are a classy outfit with a top manager so three points here is quality.
Played Mati, good game.
GG Steve and good luck with the op. Hopefully they dont slip with the knife and you come out male intact.
The Madrid derby and a chance for Atletico to haul the gap down to 2 points behind the sides. What a time then for the footballing gods to desert you. First attack of the game Real score and the starting tactics are ripped up by Marsh. 10 minutes and its 0-2. 51 minutes and its 0-3, all the time Atletico are giving as good as they are getting. A red card for Mendy on 57' gave the home side some hope but despite playing the rest of the game in Reals defensive third somehow Atletico conceded again for an extremely harsh 0-4 score-line.
The overall shot count of 22-15 made a mockery of the scoreline but the home side need extra shooting practice with the on-target count a filthy 7-9.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "We were excellent in the middle of the pitch, the better team but we were terrible in both penalty boxes. We will sacrifice a goat or something before the next game. Really disappointing because most of the top half lost their games and we could have been sitting really well in the league but as things stand we travel to Roma well off the pace".
On-loan Soumane improved his shooting to 13-18-4 player.
2 wins in a row against two very good sides and confidence is on a small high. Martial showing what a decent striker he is with a well deserved hattrick and a rare goal for Tagliafico but obviously not all one way traffic against Inter Milan but happy with the three points.
A big win for us as our little run of good form continues one game longer. We expected Rangers to play C like all of their away games so opted for E as A could have been risky considering the strength of their defence.
As the first third of the came was coming to a close, with us being the better of the two teams, A_Isak powered a header past the Rangers goalkeeper to put us into the lead. At this point we went on the attack, thus giving up TA.
A minute after taking the lead, Rangers thought they'd squared things up again with a goal from P_Torres however the officials ruled against it and we held onto our slender advantage.
9 minutes before the half time break, Isak doubled his and our tally for the day and we looked to tighten our grip on the points...this lasted 60 seconds as we saw J_Gvardiol sent off for a push on Rangers midfielder K_Demirbay.
If Rangers thought that this was their way back into the game, Isak's third of the game deep into stoppage time ended any hopes of a comeback heading into half time.
After the break, it was a matter of seeing out the game for us and with less than 15 minutes played in the second half, Isak had his 4th and the game was beyond doubt. We saw out the rest of the game with little to worry about from our visitors.
Statistically we were much the better team and deserved a comfortable win.
Some good abs for Gonzalez, Camavinga and Isak and some very good results around the league.
Poor result for us again and for the 2nd consecutive game I got it wrong tactically. Thankfully we didn't still have Stevie Wonder between the sticks and we were able to cancel out their opener. Napoli went down to ten men but we couldn't find another way through despite creating plenty chances - although in fairness I feel Napoli deserved their point.
Already looks like we're making up the numbers in the league so we've got to be laser focused on the cup competitions starting with a vital game against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League. A draw will see us progress but that's easier said than done against Lewandowski and co. We have to get our act together as recent performances just haven't been acceptable.
Last week I had a rant following a drumming by Leipzig as my goalkeeper had one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen, this week he decided to turn up but I was De Gea in the Lazio net who played like he and never seen a ball before.
We edged the stats but in truth it could and should have been much closer.
This gives us some hope with a must win game against PSG in the DPT. It’s all to play for and we plan on doing our best to take this to the final game.
Unlucky Drum, I was on the back of one of these last week and know how shitty it can feel. Keep your head up mate, doing a great job.
With our top scorer Castellanos out, I opted with five at the back and only one striker. Coming out attacking was a tactic we tried once before and anticipating PSG would take a more aggressive approach, I thought to give it a go. We managed to take the lead early but ultimately the quality of the opposition proved too much. Statistically lopsided against us, we did mange to get more chances on goal than is typical for us, so that's certainly a plus. Correa scored the lone goal. I was hoping to steal a point but unfortunately the loss drops us back into the bottom three.
Did the old switcheroo with the tactics and caught Marshy hopping here. Matched their tactics when they hoped to counter, then the old esms trick of a goal with the first action of the game caused their game plan out the window and walked into ours. Atletico played into our hands as we retained the counter attacking style as they came us and soon it was 0-2. Into the second half we felt comfortable enough to let go of the hand brake and go attacking also, added two more goals to make 0-4 despite being down to ten men. The stats show that Atletico deserved more, but being down to ten men does scew the stats. They defo didn't deserve a 4 goal loss that is for sure though. GG Marshy.
Elsewhere in the league, freight train Roma blew a tyre at Monaco, meaning we leapfrog them into top spot in the league. I think it was about this time last season - maybe a little later, that we did the same. We never let it go.
So rock bottom of the league after 15 games - and out of the only cup we were in - not the start we anticipated!
After Bridginho had kindly supported the club whilst Raingod was away for 2 weeks (personal thanks have been sent) no wins in 2 since returning ..
We were forced to go with a back 3 with Garcia out, and went for a 352 approach ..
We took the lead twice in the game, but each time were pinned back .. especially disappointing to concede the 2nd just 1 minute after opting to go D to close the game off !
So where do we go from here ? Raingod was bullish in the post match conference - my target is to win a trophy for Sevilla and that hasnt changed - I wont walk away from this .. and my aim is to secure a DPT place for next season .. which is only 6 point away from us .. we will now be looking for deals that give us a short term boost ..
On the subject of relegation, he confirmed that should that happen he would walk away from the club and the league - in 3 years I have played 7 different ESMS games, typically winning silverware or acheiving promotions - my only failure was in FMFA 2 years ago where despite making Palace the 5th best side in the game we were relegated from the 2nd tier! I don't believe this team will go down but the Sevilla fans have my word I will walk away should I fail
We have played C away from home twice and lost, while countering, we have faced C while at home and lost, cant really explain it, fed up of C tactic and its erractic nature it seems to hate us whether we face it or play it and its getting boring, we did enough to win this game but not quote enough to lose it but here we are with a man sent off a loss at home and into a CL tie on tuesday with a suspension, happy days. gg mate
I'll start by saying I'm not sure where this result has come from!
Following a decent performance in the defeat in Madrid, and expecting a similar approach from Roma we elected to play a similar formation, the difference being Giles making a rare start due to the injury to Smalling.
The opening to the game saw chances for both teams before Cresswell and Coates in the Monaco defence combined for Cresswell to launch a stunning shot past Martinez in the Roma goal five minutes before half time.
10 minutes into the second half Jovetic scored 2 in the space of 3 minutes to put Monaco into a 3-0 lead with just over 30 minutes to go.
With 15 minutes to go Neymar scored for Roma to pull Roma back into the game before a goal for each side 2 minutes later saw Reyes scored his first of the season and Tadic reply immediately to take the score to 4-2.
Both teams had chances in the last 10 minutes but we held on to come away with a famous 4-2 victory somewhat against the run of play.
Good game Derek, good luck for the rest of the season.
