I think Chris tried every tactic available in this match and created lots of chances but Martinez was up to the challenge. A fired-up Neymar, who is fighting to stay at the club, scored 4 in 4 minutes to secure 3 points and stay on the heels of the self-proclaimed title favourites.
Unsurprisingly ticket sales are low for the visit of Boring Munich next.
Came away from this match really disappointed with the result. We would expect to lose to Juventus but we put up a good fight and I think the score line is harsh. I think the thing that made the difference was Juve's clinical finishing - they showed why they are a top class side.
The game started with us playing a P and the away side A, after they took the lead we switched to a C but despite the tactical advantage couldn't get back into the game. Near the end Andy's side grabbed two goals to make their victory safe.
Played Andy, good game.
In a chaotic weekend, and in a hurry to just show up for the match, Manager Finkelstein made a huge mistake and ended up playing most of the match without a pure Forward, with a silly tactical change in the first minute of the Match that moved Antoine Griezmann to play as attacking midfielder along Lio Messi and Ferran Torres.
It was an even match up until minute 70th when Gio Simeone, who had come into the pitch 20 minutes before this, broke Leipzig's strong defense, caught an excellent assistance from Hofmann (who had also came from the bench), and put Milan in front, with an awesome shot.
Third win in a row, which places Milan 4th, matched in points with Real Madrid, but worse goal difference, and only 3 points from the leaders PSG who will be hosting the Italian side on Thursday where they will be favorites to extend the difference to 6 points.
Making up for our poor cup performance in the same fixture we came out and blew lyon away, we raced into a 1 nil lead but conceeded on the 25th minute and in truth im not sure how it stayed like that to halftime as we battered them, again we went in at halftime at 1-1 and the players needing a kick up the arse to finish the chances that we kept squandering, it worked as within 3 minutes of the restart we were 4-1 up and job done, we had 26 shots on goal and a great performance overall that take sus up the table but at this early stage the table i dont care about more the performances and this was a great one. gg mate
Sevilla are a dogged outfit but one that we have had good form against since Marsh left there. This performance simply was not good enough and Ateltico can thank Oblek for ensuring the side came away with a point.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "We appear to have helped to fix the defensive issues of last season having conceded only 7 goals in 13 games this season. Unfortunately we are neither creating enough nor taking enough of the chances we do create and our attacking play is looking disjointed this season. There is work to be done but the season is only just starting so we wont panic just yet. We are probably 3 points down on where we would like to be right now so we need to put a good run together".
The first El Clasico of Season 2 goes the way of the reigning, defending, EFL1 Champions. Barca lined up as expected, but took an early lead. We responded quickly though with early first half goals from Elliot and Leao to make it 2-1 to Los Blancos. The real surprise here was that there was no more goals in the game. Looking over the stats, we had double the amount of their shots, so we deserved the victory, the three points, the spoils and the bragging rights here but it was a tight scoreline. Always a tough game verses Barca and we've had some right ding dongs over the years so happy to take first blood this season. GG Graeme.
Never nice to lose the bigger games but in truth we can have no complaints with the outcome of this one, Madrid deserved their win.
We started well and got our noses in front and I suppose the usual question is should we have then changed tactic and tried to make things more difficult for them. Maybe we should have but it's easy in hindsight, we've had a degree of success playing this way against the stronger sides and my days of playing a lot of counter attacking are long since gone.
As I said going into the game it's one of the most difficult fixtures on the schedule so we just have to take it on the chin and look to bounce back. Easier said than done with Arsenal next and then free scoring Roma after that. Yikes.
PSG 4 Napolio 1
We managed to put 8 past Napoli in both games last season, and maybe they had this on their mind when they opted for a 5df/2dm D combo for the first hour. They only opened up at 2 down and we went on to add another 2 goals in the last 30 minutes. Despite being one of the weaker teams in the division going forward, Napoli are surprisingly strong defensively - probably in the top 6 even without playing D. Happy to get the win, but disappointed to concede against one of the weaker teams, but maybe playing DMs and resting defenders isnt a wise strategy.
GG Chris
A solid result against a team that I feel we should be beating considering they've been recently promoted.
We set up with an all out attack mindset, while our hosts surprisingly opted for a passing style of play.
After a back and forth opening 35 minutes, it was us who took the lead and headed into the break a goal to the good, surviving a late penalty scare.
Into the second half and we doubled our lead 11 minutes after the restart and went on to add a 3rd 12 minutes from time to seal the 3 points.
Statistically we were the better team, not by 3 goals but we've been fairly good on this occasion at getting our shots on target and for a chance we've looked good defensively. In addition to this, our strikers seem to be scoring so we need to hope that continues.
what do i say about this, last years surprise package, strong team and a manager who knows how to set a team up to frustrate you and beat you,
we lined up to attack them from the start, 4 attackers against a 6 man defensive line, we gave up alot of possession, but we were holding our own and maybe even shading the better chances,
on 27 minutes, Araujo started a move, dropped shaw and megged lopes, 1-0, this started a snowball effect of changes, but didnt disrupt the rhythm too much leading into half time.
no changes came, and the same look of team meant the same lisbon push, lazio hold them out and try to launch our own attacks,
the next goal is crucial to either side, lisbon score, and they press on,,, lazio score,, game over??
boom, 61 minutes,,,, DE PAULLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Lazio 2-0 up, andddddddd DEFEND,,
we see the game out without conceding,,,
nice to beat lisbon, but then i saw they havent started well,,,
Although it's a loss the performance was better than expected away to Matias's AC Milan. We managed to hold on until the later stages of the second half before going one nil down when there sub Simeone hit the winner. We had a close decision go against us in the final seconds when our star defender Tagliafico thought he had scored but according to the ref it hadn't crossed the line but overall AC Milan deserved the 3 points.
This was a rough one. We tried but were out classed. Went with a more aggressive approach because I figured playing conservative would only be playing not too lose by too much. Well it backfired....oh well on to the next.
Game 1 this week of Monaco vs the Banks Brothers and it didnt go well!
We set up with a similar formation and squad to our previous matches which had earned us 5 points from a possible 9 and while the score was 0-0 there was a chance of us getting something from the match.
With 5 minutes to go the scores were still level as both goalkeepers matched the opposition, however with 5 minutes to go Musiala struck a speculative shot towards goal which went in off the post with the keeper beaten. 3 minutes later as Monaco chased the game Hradecky in the Monaco goal fouled Osimhen in the box to give away a penalty which Haaland scored. From there with only 2 minutes left Monaco didnt have enough to get back into the game. WIth a possession of 62:38 and shots on target of 11:5 Bayern were definitely the better side and it's hard to try and say that we should have got something from the match.
Good game JB, good luck for the rest of the season.
