    Sunderland 3 - 1 Nottingham Forest

Good start for us with a victory in what was a close game. Home advantage helped here and our new signing Draxler bagged in his first game as well. Hopefully a sign of things to come from him.

      Villarreal 5-0 Luton Town

While I was hoping for a positive result in this game I never expected what was served up by the lads. We totally outplayed our opponents in this tie and it was front man Carrillo who stole the limelight with a fine hat trick. Not even the dismissal of midfield man Le-Fee could dampen down our dominance today and while we realise this will still be a very tough season ahead for us we celebrate with much joy today.

        Valencia 1-1 Leicester City

Valencia and Leicester City played out a thrilling 1-1 draw at the Mestalla Stadium on Sunday night.

The Spanish side took the lead in the first half through Alejandro Berenguer but were pegged back by Lucas Alario just before half-time.

The match was evenly balanced after the break, with both sides creating chances.

Leicester were reduced to 10 men in the 11th minute when Sequeira was sent off for a reckless challenge, but they held on for a draw.

The match was a high-quality affair, with both teams playing some attractive football, though neither could take all three points.

Rebic was named Man of the Match for Leicester, while Berenguer was the best player for Valencia.

        Key stats:
        • Attempts on goal: 14 | 13
        • Off target: 8 | 6
        • On target: 6 | 7
        • Possession: 57% | 43%
        • Corners: 4 | 4
        • Red cards: 0 | 1
        • Yellow cards: 1 | 1
        • Subs used: 3 | 2
        • Fouls: 8 | 14
        • Key tackles: 5 | 15
        • Key passes: 17 | 11
        What's next?
Valencia will travel to face Marseille in their first round EFL Cup match on July 20th.

          Fulham 1-2 PSV

Nice to get the season off to a positive start. We faced a set sheet, so we can't read too much into this game.
It started A v P, and an early goal settled the nerves, and based on the stats PSV were good value for the win.
Malen put in a man of the match performance with a goal and an assist, with En-Nesyri also on the scoresheet.
An early rate up for Faivre means it's all positive so far, ul dude

              Frankfurt 1-0 Celtic

“Great to have my first game in charge. I didn’t get an off season with Frankfurt considering the late decision to make the move to Germany. We have a strong squad but the league is filled with great managers and probably 5-6 sides who could win the league. A solid start here against a great manager and a very strong team. Happy with the clean sheet in particular.” GG Sam

I can only assume that Ian has watched a different game to me. We had a lot more of the possession but we weren't able to convert that into shots on goal.

Yes Villarreal are the better team on paper and as such would be expected to win the match it has to be noted that Villarreal had 23 shots on goal to our 11, 12 on target to our 6 but the difference was between the posts where Kepa saved everything that was thrown at him but Rui Silva on his Luton debut managed to save roughly half of the shots he faced.

Moving forwards this season I have taken on, at relatively late notice a Luton side who need a lot of work to make them competitive - we fielded today 4 16 rated players, 3 of them in midfield, which is not competitive with the other teams in the division - we have a centre forward and captain who has made the jump to 19 rated which, with a bit of support, should see him do well this season and we have a couple of players soon to rate up but I don't want to start bringing in veterans with no resale value as that will prove to be a false economy.

Good game Ian, good luck for the rest of the season.

                  Frankfurt 1-0 Celtic

"Disappointed in reality, we set up well and it was a very even game, we took the tactical advantage in the second half and unfortunately it probably made us slightly more open and it allowed them a key chance that got the only goal of the game, disappointing to concede when on top but unfortunately thats the game some times, Im a fan of Anthony, hes a top bloke and deserves to have a stronger team in Frankfurt, im sure they will be very strong this season, its lesson learned for us and hopefully when the league comes round again on friday we can make a better go of it, even if it is against the joint favourites in Leicester City."
