Teamsheets MUST be in by 3pm on Game Day
BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
I did think being away first was a disadvantage with no away goals. Faced the Big D and mustered 13 v 1 shots. 7 on target. It deserved at least 1 goal I feel to send it to extra time but it wasn't to be. Feels so unsatisying but credit to Darren to going with a solid plan and good luck in the semi's.
Also have Mendy out for 3 games and Elliot out for 1 so not a great outcome. Gl to the other qualifiers.
Aston Villa 2 PSG 3
Very even game, probably worthy of a penalty shootout. Both teams basically had the same tactics. C at level/leading and A when losing. none of that D shit. Villa drew first blood before we got our noses in front, only to be pegged back again. We finally got a winner in extra time before both teams brought on weak forwards for the shootout. I beleive Villa can feel unlucky to lose this game, but i think we did enough to win the first leg, and edged it over the 2 legs.
Good Game Ian
Score line was 1-1 going into this second leg so in some ways it was like starting a fresh game. We nudged ahead fairly early but it wasnt long before we was back level. Next the opposition took the lead but this time we levelled and the game went to extra time. PSG who had a bit more than us on the day took the tie after 112 minutes. No complaints from me the better team won. Only consolation for us is that we ran arguably the best team in the game very close, although that doesn't prevent the disappointment.
This is another huge result and given our recent form, I did feel the first leg score being irrelevant. We expected the patented Roma way and got something completely different, presumably believing we'd be cashing our chips with C or D.
But, we took the lead with Nkunku's first of the season, this allowed us to switch tactic and we felt comfortable in the game. Despite Roma pulling one back, it didn't really threaten us and we cemented the tie with 2 late Elanga goals off the bench settled to the game.
Over the two legs there's not a lot that can be said on the performances. We played very well both games and deserve to go through against one the games self proclaimed superpowers, but no resting on laurels, we need to start getting consistent if we're to have any real success this season.
Conceding 2 late goals in the first leg gave us Mission Impossible here - needing to win by 4. We decided to go all in on a big midfield playing E hoping to face the weakened C.
Steve is too smart for that though and got the tactical bonus and an early goal. We got one back but another two late goals gave the Manchester boys the victory.
Martinez has improved lately but was back to his old ways here conceding 3 from 6 shots.
The truth is Outten outfoxed us in both legs and we deserved to go out of the competition.
Taking a one goal lead into this game was always a cagey one really with their squad being a lot better than mine so we really we limited as to what we could try and do to get through this one as they would have no doubt smashed us all over had we played the way we normally approach games so opting to basically shut up shop and hope fo rthe best to defend the goal lead from the first leg which is what we went for and it went well for us, taking a 0-0 draw from the game to make it through to the semi finals.
They were the better of the two sides as the stats show, we knew they would be but a great shithouse performance us got us over the line and into the next round, our second semi final of the season.
