Roma 8 1 The manager who used to be good

3 goals in the last 6 minutes made this an enjoyable cricket score.

As we hit the summit of EFL for the first time this season the stats suggest we have the:
    • Best attack
    • Best defence
Long way to go still as the battle for quality back-up players heats up.

Mission impossible next - against the great wall of Manchester

      Barcelona 1 - 1 Real Madrid

We came here looking for the win with a mind on reducing actions later on in the 2nd half to cut down on any yellow cards. Not sure that's even a thing, but it worked no bookings. Clean as a whistle for the CL. As to the game, we didn't win, but a draw away to who was the 2nd placed team is a decent point and the stats show it was an even game. Lose top spot on goal diference but the top of the table is very tight, and there's a long way to go. One of the upcoming games is Roma vs Lisbon, so one or both of those teams drop points right there. Suspect it will be Lisbon but a draw would be nice. GG Livi always a pleasure.

          Sporting Lisbon 3 Monaco 2

Monaco inflicted Sporting Lisbon's first defeat of the season and were looking for revenge to keep their unrealistic title charge on track, this game was expected to be a tough ask against a manager Windebank historically struggles against.

The game ended up being a five goal thriller in the Estadio Jose Alvalade with Sporting Lisbon recording their 16th League win of the season.

Both teams started with the same tactics but Sporting Lisbon's home advantage being cheered on by an expectant and partisan home crowd took the lead in the 7th minute when Matteo Politano jumped over Cresswell's challenge and side footed a shot past the desperate Hradecky to give the Lisbon Lions an early lead.

A tactical switch by Johnboy conceded tactical advantage to the high flying Portuguese side but it was the away side that scored three minutes later via Aubameyang who hit a sweet volley after mugging off Luke Shaw.

Sporting Lisbon were bossing the game but could convert the numerous chances they were creating and the first half ended 1-1.

In the 55th minute the Estadio Jose Alvalade erupted when man of the match Juan Mata found cult hero Frenkie De Jong score his 10th goal of the season to restore Sporting Lisbon's lead.

Disaster struck in the 69th minute when Robert Lewandowski scored his 23rd goal of the season but to the dismay of the Sporting Lisbon crowd it was an own goal and Monaco had drawn level with a real sucker punch.

Historically the FFO world would see Sporting Lisbon crumble under these circumstances but not this Sporting Lisbon side as substitute Eden Hazard took the game by the scruff of the neck and lobbed the Monaco goalkeeper to score a dramatic 82nd minute winner and secure three massive points to drag Sporting Lisbon up one place in the table but joint top with the self entitled heavy weights of Roma and Real Madrid.

Although the score line did not reflect that Sporting Lisbon slapped the fanny out of Monaco the three points were well earned. Sporting Lisbon had 62% possession and created 17 chances to Monaco's 6 and had 7 shots on target to Monaco's 2.

Roma went to the summit following handing out a crushing defeat to Juventus and Barcelona missed an opportunity to go top following a stalemate against the wobbling Real Madrid who just about hold onto their 2.0 PPG ratio.

          Windebank's Post Match Reaction

That was a cracking performance even if the score line did not reflect our dominance. I am not concerned about the score line as it is just about finding ways to win games this time of the season.

We have 14 points from a possible 18 and will leave the God King to work out the PPG ratio, but what we do know is that we are on joint points with the tier one teams and managers. The real shocking stat is that despite Roma manager Derek Hughes pointing out that Roma have the
          • Best Attack
          • Best Defence
2nd Tier Lisbon have the most wins in the league and that is only equalled by the Superior Nick Lovell at Manchester City across all FFO Leagues.

With 17 League games still to go my players should be proud that our unfancied side are very much in the mix and long may that continue.

Good game as always Johnboy I am well chuffed to get three points against ya as it does not happen very often I don't think. Best of Luck for the season especially in games 27, 31 and 38!!!!

            PSG 3 AC Milan2
The team had one instruction - to get the GK 31 abs ahead of the CL game and they failed dismally. As expected we totally bossed the stats against a depleted AC Milan team, but we just couldnt get that 2 goal cushion we needed to dare to open up a little at the back. Our home form has been amazing the season with 10 wins and 1 draw from 12 games, which is in stark contrast to our away form of 1 win and 8 draws from 13 games. Another brace for Pino to take his tally to 24 for the season. Will be interesting to see where he ends up on the top gun chart after rerates.

              Valencia 3-1 Leverkusen

pretty such sanchez has done the double of me this season, two players out and poor squad depth meant I went into this game with zero confidence and it showed. CvC and we never looked like getting anything from this game. Disappointing after quite a good run to get us up the league. Two losses on the bounce now sees us back nearer the black hole positions.

Obviously I’d have taken a T sheet like marshy!

Good game sanchez, and best of luck for the rest of the season

                Sevilla 1 - 0 Rangers

Always nice to get one over on Burrows, the man who always seems to guess which ground I'm at!!

Pleased to see we have developed a team to rival Burrows .. and this win puts us just a couple of points off the DPT once more ...

We shared possession but 350% more shots on target .. although just the one to show for it from that man Jose ..

BUT he was one of 4 bookings in the match as Burrows played dirty, meaning he misses our crucial DPT game with Drum!!!!

Bender was MOM, relishing his appointment as skipper ..

                  Barcelona 1 Real Madrid 1

Another closely fought encounter with our traditional old rivals. We tried to mix things up tactically but it wasn't particularly effective and we had to come from behind which we did just after the hour mark through substitute Weimann who was unlucky not to start given his hat trick in our previous game.

From there on in it was A v A and we were awarded the perfect chance to take the lead but Jesus missed from the penalty spot - although in fairness the draw looks a fair outcome.

Can never walk away from a draw with Real disappointed and we're reasonably happy with the outcome as it keeps us within a point of the top whilst maintaining our unbeaten run against them. Crazily tight up at the top.

                    Frankfurt 7 Atletico Madrid 2

A terrible result for the Atletico boys who were looking to close the gap on the top four with Real playing Barca. Statistics were slightly in Madrids favor and with the better keeper and goalscorers 9 times out of 10 this would have been an away win. However today was one of those days when Frankfurt were running volcanic hot and simply everything they hit on goal found the back of the net. 9 shots on target resulting in 7 goals with Henderson looking a dejected figure on full-time.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "We are desperately disappointed with this result. We have been humped three times this season now. 7-2, 0-6 and 8-0. 21 goals conceded from a total of 59 shots in those games. It means we have one of the worst defences in the entire league now. Thankfully results elsewhere were fairly kind and we remain on target for somewhere between 05th and 08th place"

Better news was the upgrade of Mbabu defending to 19-16-4, Vinicius passing to 6-15-20 and Fati's shooting to 3-16-19 which can only help the side for the remainder of the season.

                    Good game Josh

Happy with this result after the mauling Valencia had last week. Ordinarily we would be jumping for joy however it seems every other team in the bottom 5 got a result as well which means we are still very much rooted to the bottom of the table.

In terms of the T sheet last week, unfortunately there was a family emergency which had to dealt with as a matter of urgency. Manager Matt Rose didn't have time to relay this to the team or coaches and Valencia had to just play without any guidance whatsoever. The club has formally apologised to the league, who were extremely supportive of the matter.

                      Good game Jas

                        Lazio 4 - 0 Bayern Munich

so we obviously entered this game against the boss struggling to find wins, points and a rhythm, we knew BM would have a plan to attack us, and with all the stars on show it should have been a cracker.

                        but………………………………

we stifled the German giants. They had more possession and did muster 4 shots with only 2 on target, must say with how DDG concedes I’d shoot more

but with our lowly 45% ball, we had 14 shots, 9 on target.

pulisic was key,,,, 2 goals, MoM performance, Trippier and de Paul chipped in too,

however Mazraoui getting sent off puts him out of the tie vs Sevilla in the DPT.

good to get a win and pull away from that drop zone.

                          Roma 8 - 1 Juventus

We took a real beating here....C doesn't seem to work vs the Roma A, neither does P and A certainly doesn't...

A first action goal for Roma set the tone, even if we did answer straight back. By the time Roma had their 3rd, we'd thrown the towel in and went A also but it seems that you don't earn abs when you're being pummelled from all angles. As Derek said, 3 goals in the closing minutes made the result even worse but we just can't seem to pull anything off against this Roma team as whatever we set up, their A seems to instantly break us down.

Statistically it was a lot closer than the scoreline would suggest, maybe a 2 goal win if we're being generous. Good game Derek.

Wow that was a result out of the blue! Everything we did worked for us in this game. In truth the stats don't show much between the two sides, but we certainly made a mockery of those stats with our amazing finishing. Three points we weren't expecting and just as well we got them as most of the teams around us also won. The battle against relegation continues.........

Unlucky Marshy, on any other day you'd have taken that.

The next game sees us at home again in a must win relegation battle against fellow strugglers Valencia.

                              Inter Milan 2 - 2 Lyon

A really poor game from us, erractic form really, one game we look like superstars the next we look like Lyon its hard to understand, we are unbeaten but drawing all the time which is no good.

28 minutes into the game and Lyon have raced into a 2 goal lead and usually thats hard to recover from but like all the other games we have drew we fought back to get a point but its just bad defending again, i have been saying it since my return but some players may end up out the door as tonights game is the final chance they have to improve.

A Lukaku brace helped us get the draw but other than that it was another game where no one deserved to win and that says more about Lyon than us, GG mate
