BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
Feels like I say this about all victories recently but a big win for us. Keeps us in touch with the crowd at the top of the league which is vital.
The Black Cats were always going to be hard to break down so we were a bit ambitious and went with three forwards which paid off with Dolberg and Sadiq both on the scoresheet. Dolberg rising to his recent appointment as captain by also bagging the Motm award.
Things got a bit nervy in the final ten minutes when Sunderland got a goal back but we held on.
Played David, unlucky.
Star of the show for Villarreal today was without doubt the stand in goalkeeper Runar Runarsson who stopped almost everything that the opposition threw at him. The Number Two was immense between the sticks today in keeping out the much better side on the day West Bromwich Albion. It was in the end an unlikely late winner from the home side who hit a smash and grab winner thanks to the lively wing back Munoz. It was in the end heart brake for Albion but a much welcome three points for Ian Greaves boys.
I was really unsure how Atalanta were going to approach this game and as it turned out I got it completely wrong and consequently we paid a heavy price. Jota, a player we have watched from time to time, opened the scoring for the home side followed by a second from his fellow strike partner. Emerson Royal gave us some hope scoring a minute after their second to give us something to build on as we went into the second half. Things didn't quite pan out the way we would have wanted and eventually Atalanta popped the icing on top of their cake with the third to well and truly put the game to bed. The truth of the matter is that we were second best throughout this game and deserved to be on the wrong end of the final result. If someone in this division could put together a decent winning run then the rest of us would be lost. As it is we all seem to be stumbling along and keeping it very tight at the top.
Very well played Ryan, fully deserved three points.
We now have a very tricky first leg WM QF game to play against Premiership side Leicester City.
A big win for Boro against a good team & manager. It's tight at the top of the league so every win is key so we're pleased to get this one.
P vs P to start off with and after a boring first half which ended goalless, the second half sprung into action just past the hour mark where we were yet again reduced to ten men. However, on this occasion our new captain gave us the lead and the win less than 10 minutes later.
Statistically it was a fairly even game with us shading it so a win isn't far off where we feel the result should have been. Up to 2nd now, but with a few right behind us.
Our unbeaten streak ends at 4. Berge made his debut and lasted an entire 5 minutes before seeing red. We managed to go up 2-1 despite playing with only 10 men. Then around the hour mark Ajax went down a man from a S_Sane red card. It was 2-2 at that point and I was hoping we'd hang on for a point but we were just not on our game today.
Credit to Ajax and manager Alfredo for a well managed match amongst all the chaos.
FC Porto 3 - 1 Bristol City
D_Loader (3,51), Otavio (53) P_Goncalves (37)
another good win for this Porto side in our over achievement of a season so far. The win takes us top again but with teams piled up behind us in close quarters so it isn’t something that will over excite us.
loader rates up now which will be useful and a strong keep is now stronger thanks to the captain change which will help us moving forward.
this result was about fair I would say. We were the better side and I think we deserve the win. Happy with this one.
cheers Jon well played
Season 2 Premier League Champions - Leeds
Season 2 Conference Champions - Porto
Another day, another defeat for PSV, just what did Sam do to the players in the showers to leave them so traumatised?
Some chinks of light with this one, as it was actually a decent performance, and fairly even on the stats
Another player out, in midfield this time.
Some good abs, and a goal for our young star striker, so not all bad
Let's hope for a cracking second half to the season and late playoff run..
For the first time in I can't remember how long we didn't concede a goal in the opening 10 minutes, but we didn't manage to score one either.
We went into the match with the same personnel from the disappointing defeat at West Brom but playing Koopmeiners in a slightly more advanced position as a defensive midfielder alongside Stuart Dallas.
As with our last game we had significantly more possession and achieved more shots on target than our opponents but we weren't able to beat Man of the Match Lunin in the Fulham goal.
It is still a point gained given recent form but we should have taken all 3, fortunately for us however PSV were defeated and so we actually close in on them slightly but we face the flying Wolves next up.
Good game Joe, good luck for the rest of the season.
