Wild first 10 minutes in this match, which ultimately set the tone. Switched up my tactics to try and catch AB off guard....it didn't exactly work. Middlesbrough had TA from the start and fortunately for us had a goal disallowed in the first minute. A poor challenge by Polter in the 4th minute led to a penalty which was brilliantly saved Schwolow, this was the turning point. The lads settled into a match and scored in the 9th minute off a lucky bounce. Obviously frustrated Middlesbrough dropped to 10 men 10 minutes before the half. This gave Schalke enough of an advantage to see the game out. Would have liked to convert another chance but thrilled to get 3 points and move back into 3rd just 2 points off the top.
Might be my first ever positive result against an AB managed side, I'll take it. Good game AB a bit unlucky for sure.
We were well and truly beaten here. Feyenoord were easily the better side and they deserved their win and to take all 3 points.
We have massively over achieved so far so there is no concerns from here. We have to give all of our squaddies minutes which will effect our strength anyway, if not we will be left with 18 players eos and struggling to get to 22.
Hopefully we can be more competitive on Monday because we were pants today.
Played Nickers, fully deserved
Season 2 Premier League Champions - Leeds
Season 2 Conference Champions - Porto
Forest the better side in this game but it was my lads that proved to be the more clinical in front of goal. We got off to a dream start going ahead just two minutes into the game and although the home side did more pushing than us we doubled our advantage with just less than 20 minutes left to play. Forest deservedly grabbed a goal back late on but didnt have enough time left to find a leveller. .
Disappointing result in truth for us. We raced into a one goal lead and then Wolves changed their tactics about which in theory gave us the tactical advantage but they went onto score two goals and take the three points. Chris has made the Molineux a really tough place to visit this season and they have a young talented squad so it was always going to be tricky. I think the thing which is frustrating me a the moment is our lack of consistency, we put in some excellent performances then don't turn up for the next game. Plenty to think about!
Played Chris, good luck for the title run in.
A deserved win. There weren't too many chances in the first half - with nothing of note between 4 and 23 minutes but we picked up the second half with Sensi opening the scoring and Conway grabbing a brace after his 65th minute introduction to make things safe.
We matched up on the tactics until our goal, where Leipzig's switch to P gave us the advantage from there on as we stuck with the C for the entire match.
This was a lucky result for us, Cardiff dominated a lot of the chances but our keeper managed to win the game for us. Give us our first cover win, so at least I haven’t embarrassed myself in Tony’s absence.
Disappointing performance and result again, though I suppose it's better than a defeat!
We signed 3 or 4 new lads, but no immediate improvement to be seen in a game of few chances on goal.
More changes planned, so hopefully we might see an upturn in results soon!
As stated by Chris, the first half of this game was a bit crazy, and all against us.
1st minute, we have a goal disallowed
4th minute we earn a penalty but fail to score it
9th minute Schalke take the lead
36th minute, A_Mowatt is sent off.
It seems like everything that could go against us, did. I'm just surprised that it ended only 1-0.
Statistically it was an even game, with Schalke creating more chances than us but not getting many on target so with us being down to 10 men, I'd say 1-0 to them is fair.
Good game Chris, it's tight at the top of the table.
We went down to an early Sociedad goal and you could see the stress appear on my players faces. But the home advantage of having the Molineux crowd roaring us on brought them back to themselves and with the tactical tweak we came back into the game. Home defender Pascal Struijk proved to be the focal point in this game scoring both goals and rightly being acclaimed MotM. We had a late penalty claim denied by the referee but thankfully it had no effect on the outcome even though former Wolf Kasper Dolberg almost tied the game up with the last kick of the game. That just showed how close this game was. Stats wise we just about edged it.
Well played Freddie and welcome back.
Next game sees us travel to Italy to take on bottom club Atalanta.
As seems to be a recurring theme in our season, a goal was scored early in the game and the result matched the early outcome.
West Brom took the lead in the first 10 minutes through Maksimovic before Brewster scored his 6th of the season before the half hour mark, Derby managed to grab a goal back through Corona with pretty much our first attack of the 2nd half leaving us 40 minutes to try and find an equaliser.
Unfortunately we weren't able to get a second and we return to the East Midlands with nothing to show for our efforts.
Statistically we were by far the better side, we had nearly 20% more of the possession and outshot our opponents by 12 - 8 with nearly double the shots on target meaning that the West Brom goalkeeper develops but unfortunately Ramsdale between the posts for Derby regresses slightly making it harder for him to make the jump to the next level.
Good game Frank, good luck for the rest of the season.
