BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
Got what we needed and to be honest was a relief at full time. Threw complete caution and found us 1 up early but Barca levelled within 10 minutes then we had an odd game of us looking to counter and Barca going route one which I think nullified the game and kept it pretty quiet.
We should've been through earlier but the collapse of R4 & R5 left us in this debacle and thankfully we held on
It's irrelevant who we play next round in my opinion as either way, unless we show up the lazy A's will have a field day against our GK!
Top entertainment at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and a little miracle how the game ended with only two goals in it.
The stats was pretty even and it’s a well earned draw for both sides. Juan Forlin gave us the lead midway through the first half and we kept ourselves in front until Joao Felix leveled from a spot kick in the 59th minute.
There was no more goals in it and it see us playing CL football for the last time this season after finishing 3rd in the group. Good luck for the remainder to Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.
A minimum one point was the aim for us from this game with the home side needing all three points, a scenario that obviously favoured us before a ball was kicked. We therefore couldnt afford to be open with our approach but at the same time didn't want to be negative. In the end we probably did enough to justify the three points, all three goals in this tie came during the latter stages of the first 45 and it was a case of job well done. All the games big hitters qualify to the knockouts so tough times ahead in this competition.
Another one of those strange games were we didn't get hardly any tackles, and our shots on goal was mostly off target. The game was closer than a 3 goal gap though. Everton didn't decide to play more open despite already being out of the competition and stuck to their lazy C guns. Another C beaten though with all four of our strikers getting all the goals as we progress as winners of the group with the most points accumulated of all the groups. GG Will and good luck for the rest of the reason, Eduardo too, was a pleasure to play you both. Well done to Ed too for qualifying behind us, perhaps the semi's?
Next up in the quarters will be either City, (after they were destroyed by a rampent Roma), Arsenal or Man Utd. All tough games. Truth be told, we would want to obviously avoid City at this stage, we would be confident against all 3 teams but would know whoever it turns out being, it will be extremely tough either way.
Fairly meaningless game for us given we were already out and obviously the temptation then is just to play for abs.
Man Utd needed a point though and I expected a C from them so I was in two minds what to do. We quickly went behind to a penalty so switched to a long ball approach and promptly equalised. We stayed with that before changing to all out attack late on but a draw looks to be the right result.
It's been a really poor CL campaign for us without question. We've faced a lot of C against our preferred P and we just haven't been good enough to overcome it on the most part. I've become too stubborn with the passing approach so it's probably time to start mixing things up again.
Well, after winning our opening 2 games, we've fallen to 4 straight defeats and we're out. A very poor showing from us in this campaign which shows that we're just not ready for this competition.
We knew we were pretty much out so we decided to go A for abs, Burnley played A too to start with and 7 minutes later, we were 2-0 down.
We answered back on 12 minutes and pulled level just before half time and we had hope.
Into the second half and again, two quick fire goals for Burnley just after the hour mark put the game beyond us.
Statistically it was a fairly even game, but our luck just hasn't been in this season it seems. Good game Simon.
Our best shot at reaching the last 8 failed badly when manager Marsh misread the opposition manager Greaves
Marsh commented "We thought Greaves would set up more defensively but still play the attackers. We packed midfield in the hope of dominating the ball and controlling the shot count. It just didnt work out that way and we did neither. I got it wrong or Greaves got it right on the night. It was never going to be easy coming into the last game needing the win but the fixture order was not kind to us nor were results in the earlier games. Over the 6 games we probably did enough to qualify in terms of performances but we didnt get the rub of the green. Its promising however if we can grab another go next season".
Its the end of cup action for Madrid who must now concentrate all efforts on finishing as high up the league as possible.
A bit of a harsh result this one as the stats suggest this had draw written all over it but an early goal by Bayern turned out to be the only goal of the game. We knew going into the game that we had made it through the group stage and that a point would have seen us win the group but we couldn't hold out but none the less, well pleased to make it through a really tough group of teams in Bayern, Juventus and Burnley.
Spurs 1 PSG 1
Meaningless game in terms of group progression. In the same fixture last year spurs stopped us progressing to the QFs so i was looking to get some revenge, but didnt really happen. After the 3 DF A last season, and the A in R5 i was expecting similar from Eduardo this game, but ended up P v A and a relatively quiet game.
GG Eduardo
