BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
After a but of luck it the last couple of League games winning tight affairs, everything that could go wrong went wrong as Lisbon got taught a footballing lesson by Hamza's Inter Milan on a disappointing Thursday night.
In a game of football that will live long in the memory for the amount of chances created 23 for the home team and 22 for Inter Milan there were goals galore.
The real difference in this game was the fact that while Inter Milan were clinical having a massive 16 shots on target Sporting Lisbon could only get 5 of their shots on target.
Sporting Lisbon came out with intent creating 3 chances in the opening two minutes but the shots that beat Stegan hit the side netting.
When Dembele put the ball in the net on the 3rd minute no one was expecting what was to follow.
Lopes who has been in great form before this game let a shot from Son through his fingers as Inter Milan went 2-0 up on 10 minutes, then Lukaku made it 3-0 two minutes later when Inter Milan were awarded a dubious penalty.
The ground was silent and Windebank looked like a tomato with rage at what he was seeing.
In the 15th minute Eden Hazard pulled a goal back to make it 1-3 and two minutes later Lewandowski put the ball in the net to cut the deficit to 2-3.
So far this season Sporting Lisbon have found a steely resolve in games and there was a belief that this could be a memorable comeback.
Lisbon were creating chance after chance but they were not going on target and Inter Milan looked like they were going to score every time they attacked in what was a very open game.
In the 27th minute the life was sucked out the stadium when Lopes made yet another mistake which Castagne punished.
Could Windebank get his players motivated during the half time chat? with the half ending 4-2 Inter Milan.
Could he fuck Inter Milan came out like a team possessed. Lukakumade it 5-2 in the 50th minute and things got better for Inter Milan two minutes later when Klostermann made it 6-2. Five minutes later the stadium was empty as Klostermann rubbed salt into the Sporting Lisbon wounds making the scoreline 7-2.
Sporting Lisbon players tried their best to get back in the game but Inter Milan either blocked the shot or the ball went over the bar or wide.
Sporting Lisbon seem to always get these batterings once or twice a season the question is will the players morale be battered or will they bounce back like they did following their only other defeat in the League this season.
Windebank Post Match Comments
Well what can you say? everything that could go wrong did go wrong today and it was one of those games that happen from time to time.
We went toe to toe with a very good side and I am sure Hamza will be ecstatic with this result and so he should be.
Lopes had an absolute nightmare today but he has been brilliant so far this season and will come back stronger from this disappointment.
Our shooting was woeful today despite the massive amount of chances we created and although both myself and the lads are hurting it would have been much worse if we had created only 2 or 3 chances.
We need to pick ourselves up and try and get maximum points next week against Napoli and Real Madrid as we owe the fans after this capitulation at home today.
Roma have had a poor start to the season losing to the likes of Lisbon and Rangers. With Roma's slow start to this match - Valencia had a fighting chance until they switched to the weakened Counter Attacking approach and then found themselves facing an avalanche of attacking play from the Italians, which resulted in 7 goals from their forwards.
Witsel looked longingly at the Roma pleading with the TK to recall him from his nightmare experience as he found himself unable to cope with the Roma Way.
We have crawled away with a point here, in what was meant to be the epic PvC battle that proved that C was dead, we quickly went 2-0 down to disprove this theory quickly.
We ploughed on, even with Napoli dumping the D formation and clawed back 2 goals with only 5 minutes to spare, back to the drawing board as we struggle with any consistency
"JR dropped the D on us, but it only took us 17 minutes to breach with a goal from Goretzka. They then switched to european which then walked right into our move to attacking play and we added a 2nd goal from Locatelli. Our two DM's with the first two goals! Monaco switched again soon enough and we added another goal with a penalty from Diaz but we couldn't force any more goals although we did let a late goal in.
Brave choice from Monaco with the weakened D from the off, knowing they would get little abs and still probably lose - which happened. Maybe the Lyon Way, is the right way in this situation?"
We have seen quite entertaining score-lines so far but this one despite plenty of chances both ways ended up stalemate goal-less.
Bayern had far more of the play but were very wasteful in front of goal. Atletico were far more accurate but the goalkeepers were on top overall. Atletico have become the draw specialists with 5 on the bounce which has kept the club ticking over and still unbeaten after 10 matches.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "Bayern did a really good job out there today and in truth we were pretty fortunate on the day to take a point but we know the opposition is strong both on and off the field and we move on content with a point. I think we are progressing as a club but its a tough task taking a mid-table side to a champions league side to a title challenging side and its likely to take some time. We have improved some areas since coming here and that has manifested in moving up the league. We know there is work to be done and the areas we need to improve".
I've read the interview that Madrid manager Steve Talbot has given and I call horseshit on it.
Yes Madrid have beaten us 3-1, that fact is undeniable, but to claim some kind of tactical masterclass on his behalf is stretching a point. I mean this in the nicest way to my boys but none of them would get into a Real Madrid starting eleven - despite this we matched them across the park - possession figures suggest a 50:50 split and both teams managed 5 shots on target, the significant difference is that Courtois in the Madrid goal conceded 1 from 5 whereas Hradecky in the Monaco goal conceded 3.
The last few games we've been undone by our goalkeeper - maybe I need to try and show him that he isn't irreplaceable in the Monaco goal, and that while he has earned the captains armband it can be removed equally quickly!
Sunday we travel to Milan, a city I havent managed in but one which I have a great affinity with.
Drum is arguably my biggest rival in ESMS - and FFO is the only time where he has a clearly stronger team than me ... so whilst I am happy with the point, disappointed we couldnt hold on for the win ....
Following a large close season deal between us, how ironic that ex Lazio man Nunez scores against ex Sevilla keeper DDG who made a howler .. and in the first minute!
Drum had clearly planned for this game with FIVE tactical changes in minute 2 as a reaction!
The game was even - we created more chances, including hitting the woodwork 3 times!
There were some dubious ref decisions where Lazio should have been further punished ...
It took a very dodgy pen on 65 to even things up (be interested to hear Drum's take on it!)
Jose hit the bar in the very last action of the game
PSG 1 Barcelona 1
Yet another game where we bossed the stats and probably deserved a win. For a good while it looked we were going to get beaten at home, but then Jaoa Felix, arguably the FFO MVP poppped, up with his 21st of the season. Barca seem to be our bogey team and i cannot recall the last time we beat them, so maybe its a good point against an unbeaten team.
We are still tweaking, trying to find an effective tactical combination, and the number of drawings is killing us. We have lost the same number of games as the top 2, yet are 8 points behind them both.

First game back looking after Frankfurt and what a response from the team. I couldn't have asked for more as we dominated the game from start to finish and the stats afterward confirmed this. Hakim Ziyech ran the show in midfield and deserved his late goal to cap off a great game from him. Also a great game from Federico Dimarco who scored two goals but blotted his copy book late on with a yellow card which sees him miss the next game. Apart from that we will have a full squad to choose from including new signing defender Perry Ng from Roma. Long way to go for us to get close to avoiding the drop but plenty of games to give us at least a chance to stay in the top flight if things go our way. For now it's heads down and pick up points and improve the playing staff where we can.
Another poor result from us against a team that, no offense, we should be beating.
Darren's first game in charge (I think?) so I wasn't sure what to expect so I put out what I felt was a good line up but it was Celtic that earned the first goal of the game on 20 minutes and then we went on the hunt for goals in reply.
We battered Celtic but couldn't break them down and the hosts took their 1-0 lead into the break.
Shortly after the restart, we earned ourselves a goal and looked to push on and despite our dominance, we couldn't find the back of the net for a second time with the Celtic GK having the game of his life.
Finally, in the 88th minute A_Isak put the ball into the net...the only issue being it was his own net! Why he was in our box at all in the game is unacceptable and he'll be fined 2 weeks wages for that!
We slump to yet another poor result and slide down the table even more.
Statistically we smashed the life out of Celtic and it should have been a cricket score win for us, but we didn't and we have to pick ourselves up and go again in the next game....Atletico Madrid, lovely.
I think Andy has said everything there needs to be said about the game. Fortunate doesn't do it justice. We certainly got away with one but it also means that the new beginnings started with a win.
Our keeper had a blinder and the hope has to be that that continues for the rest of the season. Star striker Boadu had one shot and scored, whilst the rest of the team all chipped in to ensure that a dogged display gained a hard earned three points.
An open game with both sides creating chances galore. We managed to take the lead midway through the 2nd half but we couldn't see it through to the end and PSG got a deserved equaliser in the 88th minute. Still, we competed well away to an excellent side so that's encouraging for us and the point keeps in touch with the top two.
Another away fixture next as we travel to Valencia. Alaba will be available again and he'll come straight back into the side. We have a strong squad to choose from these days and it's showing in our results with just the 1 defeat in our 15 fixtures so far.

GG Drum ...
in truth, shouldn’t be drawing this game. Slightly stronger team, but not extracting the goods atm.
Ddg is world class but drops too many clangers, and is a player currently under review higher up. Nunez comes back to haunt Lazio, stew yet again (like c of e) fails to capitalise, story of his career.
on 65 mins, Musso, showed his allegiance to his former employer, emphatically taking the player down,
should have been a red, but the ref bottled it,
the resulting penalty, Osimhen scores again, and with herd shaking his head, the small pocket of lazio fans start to sing, “you led again and f&@ked it up” bless ‘em.
anyway, a frosty embrace at the end of the game between drum and herd,
A. Madrid 0-0 Bayern
On the face of it we should feel hard done by but a point is a point. We move onto the next games and look to keep building, getting stronger and proving those people who wrote us off just how wrong they were. Madrid have a cracking manager who is going to disrupt the title race before long as a point here isnt to be sniffed at"
