Teamsheets MUST be in by 3pm on Game Day
BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
Tried something straight off from the training ground here, and it didn't get the required result. I will still keep this in our locker and refine it. Perhaps the conditional clash changed things, I'll need to examine further. But congrats to PSG a good win for them which continues their run of wins verses us. PSG ended up with an interesting formation of their own at the end. Still early days in the group
PSG 2 Real Madrid 0
I feel a little guilty taking all the points on this one due to very good fortune. My head isnt in the game atm due to external factors, and it clearly showed in my sheet. After losing to a Roma D previously, it appears RM were prepared to give it a go, and they set up with an odd 3 DF combo. We managed to get our noses in front and switch to a lazy C, but that is where it all went wrong. Until i look at my sheet, i have no idea why, but instead of moving my 3xFW back to AM, i crazily moved 2xDF and a DM to AM and played a stupid 31033C for the rest of the game, adding a second goal. Fortunately it was only RM as a stronger team might have taken advantage.
Unlucky Steve, you were robbed
An early goal for United more or less killed this game for us, we was always chasing from that point, went a further goal down before pulling one back. The home side then deservedly reopened up two goal advantage while all we could do was get the game over with and go again next time around.
Best display of the season with the only bug bear being the lack of cleansheet again. But, we raced into a 2 goal lead and to be honest I was surprised at how well we controlled and dominated the tie. Villa did pull once back but I don't think we ever felt too threatened and a late Adeyemi goal helped to store a 2 goal lead.
As I say it was a game of control and to be top of the group is pleasing but we still need to get more points before we can be happy with anything, but great work from the lads today!
Roma 4 3 Inter
for the second game in the row Romas ageing GK concedes 3 and relies on some late goals to save the day. With the Roma boss absence on a flight to Norway - it is pleasing to see the lads still know how to score 4 for the 4th time this season.
Two games gone & we are doing well on four points. We usually throw out CL chances away though so anything could happen.
Well and truly spanked here as Manchester City gain their revenge for our League win against them earlier in the season. I cant see us doing much in the Champions League this season ,so its damage limitation from here on in for us.We were never in it and City deserved their win. Well played Nick.
The Barca-Atletico triology is complete with a draw. This was Atletico's best effort at winning at Barca and had we not changed things when ahead and dominating the game we may well have gained a great victory. On this occasion stifling changes in the final third fuelled Barca into action between 60-70 minutes and we could have easily ended up losing. Overall we shaded the game and their keeper was much the busier of the two. The draw does keep hopes in the Champions league alive though and hopefully home advantage will prove the ingredient needed to match the excellent sides in the competition.
A massive win in our first Champions League campaign, which gives us our second win from our first two games.
Up against a struggling Bayern Munich team, we knew they were still a very good team even if their manager is known more for his achievements away from the pitch.
We expected a bold P/A from the German outfit but they countered our C with E but we took the lead with our first chance with R_Leao slotting home.
This lead only lasted 7 minutes as the returning T_Werner levelled things up for the visitors and I feared that TA and a better team could turn things around on us, thankfully the man leading the team from the dugout doesn't have a clue and we were back ahead on 28 minutes through our Belgian striker.
We entered the break with a slender lead and shortly after the restart, C_DeKetelaere doubled his tally for the day and stretched our lead to 3-1 and we looked in control.
The rest of the game was back and forth, with us creating more and eventually running out 3-1 winners.
Statistically we were the better team, 3-1 may flatter us but JB will no doubt blame E away from home (Like people haven't won league titles with it or anything......), good game JB.
Tough result to take. I felt we did ever so well in this one and we kept it tidy for over 70 minutes. But football games last for 90+ and us shutting down did cost us a good result.
Lucas Digned found the net after an hour played but goals from Inaki Williams and Marcao turned the game around for the visitors. The winning goal came less than a minute before full time.
Our CL adventure seems over for now but we’ll do our best in the final games of the campaign.
We were up against the tactical bonus for the entire game which isn't always critical but it certainly seemed to give Atletico the upper hand for the most part in this one. They scored fairly early and looked comfortable enough but we threw the kitchen sink at them from 60 mins onwards and after equalising it wouldn't have surprised me if we'd pinched it but Atletico stood firm.
Still all to play for, the double header with Aston Villa will be pretty critical, we really need to emerge from those 2 games with at least 4 points out of 6 I would think.
Anyway good game Marshy, no offence but I'm happy at not having to look at you in the opposing dug out for a while!
Haven't won in our last 4 games against Chelsea, so we owed them one. In this competition every point is vital, so we needed to get off to a good start. With Rovella suspended for the game it left us with minimal options but the lads all knew their roles perfectly. It was a lightning start with Harry scoring after 7 minutes, which allowed us to then control the game. We played patiently and wasted a few chances to seal the win but it came just before half time when Jackie boy, who's in fine form at the minute, slotted in after great work. The second half we thought Chelsea would come at us but we took control of possession well and built up our play really well. Took till the 63rd minute to make sure of the points but what a goal, Gimenez with a candidate for goal of the season with an acrobatic volley. Another from Marquinhos had the fans going nuts. A lack of concentration allowed Richarlison to score but we made sure to stamp out any thoughts of a come back.
Managers view "We are in great form at the minute so I fancied our chances today. I sent the lads out to enjoy the occasion and just make sure you put the ball in the net when the chances present themselves. Would of taken this scoreline before the game but the way the match went, was disappointed to concede. Andy's a great manager so it's always nice to get a win over him.
After defeat in round one of the Champions League for Arsenal, they got off and running with a 2-1 away at Burnley to get their first win under their belt. Despite going a goal down to a penalty after just ten minutes, The Gunners replied soon after and went on to win it in the second half which delighted the Arsenal Manager ;
" A massive win away at a really tough fixture as we have found out over the seasons but to come here and walk away with an important win because had we lost, we would have a mountain to climb to qualify so it makes it that bit more vital that we picked something up here.
Our season has been poor so far and we need to get going in the league but this was a big distraction for us and with the suspension at the back, it allowed us to try something slightly different and it paid off ".
Thought we were going to run away with it after we put a couple more past Roma, genuinely.. but probably wasn't our day as Roma turned the heat on in the second half and clinched a massive victory. Disappointed but not too much as we still have a good chance in Europe. Next up is a date with Monaco
