    Leverkusen 0-0 Sevilla

Not sure I’ve been part of a nil nil abs fest before, but there’s a first of everything.

    good game Raingod!

    Hopton commented:
”You could have left both teams out on that pitch for hours and you wouldn’t have seen any goals, good attacking intend but nothing up top.

A point is great, but we desperately need to work on putting that egg in the back of the net if we want to finish in a respectable league position. Shooting drills taking place first thing tomorrow morning!”

      Atletico 2 PSG 2

      Good game Ed

The statistics suggest PSG should have won the game but the home sides plans were just plain destroyed by injuries and red cards. With first choice goalkeeper missing from the line up matters were not helped when defender Lindelof limped off after only 3 minutes of the game. Atletico got a break when Bastoni scored an own goal but the earlier injury meant that a fifth defender never came on to the field at 1-0. Sessognon made it 2-0 a shock victory was on the cards. However Romagnoli was given his marching orders on 29 minutes ensuring the away side complete control. Felix scored 2 in 2 from one from a penalty conceded by the second choice keeper. Vincious Junior also limped off the pitch meaning Madrid finished with a midfielder playing striker. It looked chaotic from the stands but some poor finishing from PSG and heroic goalkeeping from Unsain Atletico battled to earn a point.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "A draw against the last champions off FFO1 cannot be a bad point but it would have been nice to see what we could have done without the crazy events on the day. We now have another trip to Barcelona and are missing Romagnoli and Vincious Junior"

        Real Madrid 9 - 2 Lyon

"I wouldn't feel too downbeat on this result Jason. It was a brave set-up, one that Lyon have perfected already in rounds 1 & 3 - and at the end of the day Lyon lost as expected, but gained a shite ton of on field experience (abs). I commend him for this courage. You may as well look the tiger in the eye and take them on and who knows, than cower and be picked to pieces anyway. At least if your brave, and stick your chest out, you get rewards at the end of the day in terms of footballing experience.

I am annoyed though that our defenders just can't tackle! Letting in 2 goals is not what I expect from this team! Another low tackling total of 2 in this one from our highly rated defenders allowed them 27 shots on goal! Our tackle counts are well below average, and they must improve. I'm working myself up just talking about it to be honest. Not a happy camper! Early training in the morning with a focus on tackling for the lads, once again!"

          Rangers 2-3 lazio

on a cold icy night in Scotland, lazio were hoping to maintain there form,

Semedo missing due to a silly red in the previous game, meant a shuffle round with Fabinho getting the nod to protect the defence,

the game got started and within 5 minutes De Paul had flat footed the oppositions gk, 0-1,

lazio pushed for the second, and got it through araujo on the stroke of 45 mins, 0-2 and technically cruising to 3 points, half time,

on 64 minutes the game was apparently over, pulisic latched onto Depay’s (MOM) pass and 0-3, game over???

well burrows doesn’t give up, pacing his technical area, snarling at his gers, fans singing in ibrox, and rangers woke up, too late?

85 mins, de gea allows a nut meg. 1-3 (p torres).

90 mins, Hlozek got there second. 2-3

” we controlled the game, managed our way through, 3-0 game done, but we got sloppy, allowed them to play, happy at 3 goals but more disappointing that we conceded 2, de gea and the defence will get more drill in training before Sunday.” Drum said

          Good game Burrows.

Yes it was a roller coaster action-packed nil nil!!!
Combined 43 chances but no goals

We actually hit the woodwork FOUR times but couldn't make the breakthrough ..

Some good abs earnt though with Toby MOM and Darder both rating up ...

Whilst this was a bottom of the table clash Bayer should not be there so suppose I have to be happy with a point .. although our stats suggested we could have got more ..

Still unbeaten in 3 so let's keep it going

            Well played Jason!

              Monaco 0 0 Roma

After Tuesday's tactical masterpiece we are back down to earth with a bump. We got our tactics all wrong here and in truth were lucky to escape with a point. We faced a 7 man defence and just couldn't break them down.

Fortunately the often erratic Szczesny managed to save the three shots he faced to give us a point.

We face the hapless Bayer manager next so should be an easy 3 points to get the Roma Juggernaut back on track.

                Monaco 0 - Roma 0

Having been on the receiving end of a bit of a thumping in midweek against Real Madrid I made the decision to try and keep things tigfht again and try and hit Roma on the break.

We made a change to the starting eleven with pre-season signing Pepe coming in for his debut, and a couple of changes on the bench with Giles and Aubameyang replacing Yoshida and Wood.

Statistics-wise the game was actually quite even with both giant goalkeepers equal to anything the opposition could throw - it is perhaps telling that the best player on each team was the left fullback!

Very happy with the result, especially as we had to play almost the entire second half with only 10 men following the sending off of Jovetic with nearly the last kick of the first half, we then played the last 3 minutes with only 9 men after Smalling followed Jovetic for an early bath with a second straight red card - Roma will be disappoinyed not to have capitalised on this.

We travel to Rome next time out to face arguably the cities bigger team this season so far!

Good game Derek, good luck for the rest of the season

                  Sporting Lisbon 1 Valencia 0

After the defensive debacle of the Cup game in the defeat to Real Sociedad the Sporting Lisbon faithful would looking to see their team bounce back with a home win and continue their early season League form that saw them in 3rd place before kick off on Thursday night.

Windebank's performance analysts informed him that although Valencia had hardly used Counter Attacking in their previous games that there would be a high probability that they would be facing one this game.

This transpired to be the case but Windebank decided to go for the attack anyway due to having home advantage and the performances of his attacking quintet so far this season.

Juan Mata started the game following his 3 match injury with Frenkie making way for the Spanish attacking midfielder, in the only change to Tuesday starting eleven.

Sporting Lisbon were creating chance after chance in the first half but could not find away past Valencia keeper Alex Remiro and the half time whistle went with the scores 0-0.

Frenkie came on for Eden Hazard in the 60th minute and showed the form he has been showing all season in the 63rd minute by providing a great pass to Juan Mata who curled the ball with the inside of his foot past the impressive Remiro to give Lisbon a deserved lead.

Valencia had their best spell of the game for ten minutes from the 73rd minute and the tension from the home end was starting to build especially given the defensive fragility Lisbon have been showing since the start of the season.

The home faithful had nothing to worry about though as they took back control of the game and scenes of celebration were met with the final whistle going and Sporting Lisbon secured their fifth League win of the season in the first six games to sit proudly top of the League following a defeat for Inter Milan and and very good draw for 10 men Atletico Madrid against defending champions PSG.

This was a comprehensive 1-0 victory with Sporting Lisbon having 58% possession and creating 18 chances to Valencia's 8 with Sporting Lisbon having 11 shots on target to Valencia's 3 and Sporting Lisbon forcing 6 corners to 1.

Being top of the League is bitter sweet for the Sporting Lisbon faithful because historically Sporting Lisbon fall to shit once they reach the summit, the question is can Windebank buck that trend this season.

                  Windebank Post Match Comments

What a great performance today in what was one of the most one sided 1-0 wins you are likely to see. To bounce back from the Tuesday night Cup disappointment where we should have won is great to see.

We have achieved nothing despite sitting top after six games, the challenge for the players is to keep winning as many games as possible as the big boys will expect to see us implode in the not to distance future.

For now I will put my feet up tonight and watch the highlights and wait for the end of the program to see the League table pop up with us sitting proudly at the summit.

                  Good game Matt

                    Celtic 0 Barcelona 3

Good result and performance from us in this one, we prevented them from troubling our keeper at all and we scored with 3 of our 8 efforts on target. Felt a pretty stress free 90 minutes which is a very rare thing indeed.

It's still far too early to be getting excited about league positions and the like but we've had a promising start and it's a battle of the 2 remaining unbeaten sides on Sunday night as we welcome Atletico to Camp Nou. We had a 5 goal thriller against them in the cup the other night and I fully expect another evenly contested match on Sunday.

                      Juventus 3 - 0 Inter Milan

A comfortable win against a team, managed by a caretaker, who have started the season strongly.

I expected P from Inter, however they played A which works fine for us too.

It took us a bit to get warmed up but we took the lead on 15 minutes through A_Isak, and then doubled the lead just 60 seconds later through M_Odegaard and we were cruising.

Last season we blew a 2-0 lead vs Inter so we were still a little bit wary.

We headed into the break 2-0 up and as the second half progressed, the chances of winning the game grew more and more, with the points being sealed in the 86th minute through a A_Isak penalty.

Statistically, we SMASHED Inter, I'm just a little disappointed that it wasn't vs GS, but I'll still mention it to him.

Good game Hamza, keep your feet on the ground and you'll be fine at both teams.

We have 3 more tough games next week and we will be working on something different to try to turn this around. I know we can put a run together and it has to start soon

                          AC Milan 1 - 0 Borussia Dortmund

Game six saw us travel to AC Milan, AC are a decent team with some good players and we would have had to be at our best to have a chance of getting something from the game.

We began the game playing the E tactic which gave us T/A, however, the home team got an early goal after 3 minutes and then immediately switched to A which gave them T/A.

We finished the game with more shots on target and more possession than the home team, so that is a positive at least, but all that matters is the goals scored column and AC Milan came out on top.

The defeat doesn't do us any favours and puts us back into the bottom three. Next up we welcome Celtic, hopefully, we can get another win against them,

                            Juventus 3 - 0 Inter Milan

                            "We are inevitably shit"

That's the first and last time I will try this experiment with Inter (never say never) but jeez we got a right pounding by Juventus. Was pretty much certain we would triumph but our lacklustre performance showed otherwise. We never got going and Juventus continuously put the pressed, shot after shot, nothing that Ter Stegen could do to save the game. We will try to get back on track with a big game tonight, which we hope to get a win in.
