BONANZA DETAILS COMING SOON
First win of the season in the revamped WM cup. In a fairly open game judging by the stats we were more clinical and we’re 2-0 up by the break. Scoring another in the second half made it easy to see the game out, the away side scoring a consolation with virtually the last kick of the game.
Atalanta are a good side and it’s early days in this group so we just need to keep our heads down and keep pushing for points and see where we end up.
Dortmund are by far and away the pick of the sides in Group D, but we still should have done far better in this WM Cup group game with home advantage. Stats wise not a huge difference between the two sides, but our keeper seemed to have a nightmare and the Dortmund players took full advantage of that. We expected so much of Neuer but at the moment he seems to be struggling to live up to the hype surrounding his signing from the auction. Too little too late but it was still a good goal from Dolberg to at least get us off the mark. Mitchell picked up a yellow card after just returning from missing the last game through injury. We need to now look to producing some decent form for the next WM games against Barnsley and Ajax.
Well played Niall, fully deserved.
Next game up sees us plays hosts to Villareal. A game which also sees the return from suspension of midfielder Brahim.
Delighted to be back in European competition and contesting in a competition I have won. First group game and we gave as good as we got against a much better side. We took the lead and were good for it. To then go on and get a second was disappointing but to lose it with the last kick of the game was gutting.
Our early league form has been disappointing, to say the least so our first Group D game in the WM Cup gave us the opportunity to try and win a football match, that said Wolves are going well and were unbeaten in the Conference coming into this game, so I was a little bit wary before kick-off as, we went into the game without three key players due to injury and suspension, which meant we had to rotate the squad a little and give minutes to a number of squad players which isn’t an ideal situation.
Rafael Borré found the net on 18 minutes with a well-taken effort, to give us the lead. The first half ended with us maintaining our one-goal advantage. However, the second half was only two minutes old when Julian Weigl doubled our lead. Wolves then created a number of chances, but our keeper was having a good game and kept the Wolves attack at bay. Maxime Gonalons scored our third goal on 66 minutes. Wolves got what proved to be a consolation goal shortly after when Danish forward Kasper Dolberg found the net on 69 minutes.
The game ended 3-1 to Dortmund and in fairness, it was an even affair, and Wolves can rightly be disappointed with the result as a draw would have been a fairer result. I do think that Wolves will have a good season and are a good shout for promotion to the Premier League.
Now our focus is on our trip to fellow strugglers Napoli in the league, can this game already be described as a relegation six-pointer?
Not our best performance. “An okay performance. Nothing special. Ajax played quite well however to be honest I’m disappointed it was only 1-0 but the win is vital in this super tough group which also includes a team far too good for the cup, Borussia Dortmund.”
