    Crystal Palace 1-1 MANCHESTER UNITED
Crystal Palace win 4-2 on pens

This is cup football at it's finest, and a horrible way to settle a game. But someone has to go through and they kept their nerve where we didn't from 12 yards.

Palace are pretty predictable in how they set up so we chose our selection based on that and I'm pretty disappointed we didn't make better of the game, and more so, angry we didn't see the tie out with their goal coming so late. It's a game we need to learn lessons from quickly if we haven't done yet.

      Manchester City 3 - 1 Stoke City

These games are out of our reach currently. The squad doesn’t have enough quality to get anything from these games in my opinion yet.

Played P as I didn’t want to use the same old C. Probably lucky to keep it to 3. The extra games on a Tuesday are always a bonus at the start of the season. It’s also good to see if we can get some points in 2 days time.

Good luck in the next round Nick.

        Leeds United 8 - 2 Wet Spam

ohhh Toddy Toddy, Toddy Toddy Toddy Nigel Fortune

The good the bad and the ugly…….

Good - an absolute pounding of the spammers. A huge win, a mauling, a battering. Those bubbles are not flying very high tonight.
100 + passing abs for the Yorkshire Pirlo and Lenglet. Over 150 shooting abs for Wilf and generally an absolute abs harvest for us today in truth which should speed up some of the lads are aren’t far off levelling up.

bad - a red card for Alba in the first half. He’s out for a game, an injury to Tapsoba and he’s out for 2 games. So this has come at a cost as we now only have 3 front line defenders for our next league game.

        ugly - I’ve over reached.

great performance showing our attacking talent. We do have a formidable front line and if they can start to fire like this we’ll improve massively on last seasons poor efforts.

        oneards. Cheers Toddington

          Clarers 2 - 1 Spurs

Crashing out in the first round is something you never want but to be fair, the home side controlled this game from the start and we was never in it. A brace from Mousa Dembele put them comfortably two goals up. We never looked like a Prem team in this one. Youssef En-Nesyri got his for goal for the club when he pulled one back for us but it was never a close game.

          Well played Simon.

            Aston Villa 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Aston Villa boss Ian Greaves admitted this was a frustrating night for his boys as the opposition firmly parked a double decker bus in front of their goal. Circumstances always made it difficult for the Premier League team to try and break through but it was the new striker Lautaro Martinez who found the telling goal, the front mans second goal in as many games for the club. Wolves who failed to muster a single effort on target cleary played for penalties and you have to say that ploy nearly paid off for the Conference outfit so they will perhaps feel slightly aggrieved that plan didnt come off but there can be no doubts that the stronger home side deserved to progress.

              Wolves 0

              MotM: L_Martinez (Aston Villa)
              HT: 0-0

We make no apologies, we parked the bus as well as we could as we felt that was our only hope against a quality Prem side managed by a very good manager. In the end it proved not quite enough, but at least we kept the scoreline reasonable. The major upside for Wolves was the brilliant defensive performance from Emerson Royal who has managed to up his stats already. The added positive for both sides was there were no bookings or injuries resulting from this game.

The Wolves manager commented after the game to say "We knew going away from home against a top side was going to be tough so we had to try our best to keep things as tight as possible. We are disappointed but we knew that in reality we needed a large dose of luck to get anything from this game. Well done to Aston Villa and their manager Ian Greaves and I wish them all the very best in the next round."

                Barnsley 1-2 Chelsea

Another tough home game and another 2-1 defeat. Again, going 2-0 down, this time we didn't give up too many shots on goal, but we didn't deserve anything from this game. Zappacosta is now injured, which leaves us a bit short for the next league game.
Chelsea had a 17 rated keeper in goal and we wish we could've tested him more than our 6 shots on target.

GG Andy. All the best in the next round.

                  Blades 2 Cardiff 0
"Another poor performance. We matched our opponents for shots, but they scored from 2 of their 3 shots, whilst our 4 shots drew a blank. Not one player stepped up, and the fact that a player on the pitch for 31 minutes was our best player says it all. Things need to improve quickly else changes will be made.

                  GG Kels"

Leicester 0-0 Chicken Brighton (Brighton win on pens)

So.. a cup run is not to be this season. It was a game of two middling Prem sides battling it out, but Brighton chose to take the wussy way and play with 5 DF's and a 2 DM's to stifle the game. Though in reality it was the visitors who created the most chances.
Leicester went for a slightly more forward thinking formation than their first game, but it was not enough to break the defensive line of the South Coast side. Even extra time wasn't enough to settle the game, so on to pens it went. When it went 3-2 to home side after Godin's shocking miss, things looked good, but the last two penalty takers for Leicester lost their nerve, and out they went.

Keeper Areola was man of the match, with a fine display, and has now faced 28 shots already this season! Maybe it's time to toughen up at the back.

Good game Peter, good luck in the rest of the competition, u jammy bugger :P

                      Middlesbrough 0 - 1 WBA

A poor result which sees us crash out at the first hurdle against a team we feel that we should be beating.

We gave up TA and nothing much happened until the closing minutes, other than our defender going off injured.

MOTM Antonio gave WBA the win with 6 minutes left in the game and 2 minutes from time we lost a midfielder to injury and couldn't find a goal of our own.

Statistically it was an even game, one which could have gone either way and it's a shame it didn't go our way.

Back to back defeats to start the season for Boro, we have to improve..and fast. Notts Forest up next which will be a tough one too.

                      Good game Frank.

A little relieved to have come through this game, as we were forced to play our 17 rate goal keeper.I need not have worried because he was up to the task when we needed him.Testing early season games, but we've managed so far.Good game mate.

                          Liverpool 2 - 2 Blackburn
                          Liverpool win on penalties

                          "Mcrappe matched on Merseyside"

Travelling to the home of The Reds, Blackburn had the upper hand with a slightly stronger squad but The Reds had more heart on the night. McFlurry gave the lead to BRovers but the inform A_Silva and Yannick_Freakin_Carassco not only clawed back the deficit but gained the lead. However this was not to last as Rovers were resilient in their pursuit for a second. Leading the game eventually to penalty.

A_Rebic scored against one of his former employers but it was a night to forget for Fernandes as he skied the penalty to Mars like he was working for SpaceX.

Changes to the formation could be expected for a big game against Leeds.

                          WP Ryan.

                            Arsenal 2 - 1 Everton

Arsenal managed to book their place in the second round with a 2-1 win over Everton. Goals from Correa and Kokcu ensure that their name will be in the round two draw that will take place later this week. Despite a late goal back for the visitors, Arsenal held on for a decent win over a strong Everton side.

                            The Gunners boss had this to say after the game ;

" After the shambolic game in the league on Sunday, it was all about getting the win tonight and thankfully we managed to get that. I don't think there can be many arguments about the result, in fact we maybe should have scored one or two more looking at the stats but we got what we set out to do and that was to avoid exit at round one "

I am sure Bradwell Jnr will be very happy about trouncing Bradwell Snr. First goal did not go our way and from then on it was all downhill. Sheff Wednesday were worthy winners and we wish them well for the rest of the tournament.

                              Well played Michael
