    Southampton 3 - 1 West Ham

Happy to get the win and a good start to the season but not 100% Happy with the performance, we've carried over are bad habbits from last season conceding early goals which never helps and then have 2 goals disallowed it didnt look like it was going to be are day with allbthe possession and nothing to show for it until the 68th minute scoring 3 in 8 minutes.
I feel the squad we got this season is an improvement on the last and im excited to see what we can get out of this season

      Barnsley 1-2 Man City

A tough match against a newly promoted team, unsure about how they would set up we decided to go with what we know best. We started well and was 2-0 up after 20 minutes, however we took our foot off the pedal and didn't kill off the game. This gave Barnsley hope and we allowed them back into the game with a goal just before half time. The second half was quite an even affair, we pushed for that third goal but found no way through the Barnsley defence as keeper Maximiano was in fine form. At the same time we defended brilliantly and reduced Barnsley to minimal shots on target. Last 15 mins we sat back and just tried to see out the game and hang onto the 3 points, which nearly backfired to be honest.

When asked for his opinion Lovell answered " First game of the season and quiet a tough game but we came away with the 3 points. Thought the lads played ok, plenty of scope to get better. Nice to see Marquinhos cement himself at the top of the defender pile, being the only 20 rated defender. Stoke next in the cup, so no rest for the wicked."

Good game Anton, play like that all season and wont have any problems staying up!

        Brighton 0-0 Crystal Palace

I'm used to writing this up as the Sussex derby from my Crawley days but this now becomes the M23 derby and means more. It was a drab game to be honest with both sides cancelling each other out. With little improvement through the close season we are still looking to improve to ensure we compete rather than try and avoid relegation.
