Wolves reach their first final after what must be 10 seasons of trying. This game, hot on the heels of the Championship play off games, saw Wolves go into the final on a hot streak of great form after a run of six games unbeaten. Wolves quickly got into their stride and made the most of the tactical advantage as Salzburg came out to counter Wolves counter attacking style from the play offs. However, manager Ray Wallace set his team up to play in a more normal approach which paid dividends for the team in gold and black. Seven minutes in and Joao Pedro struck to put Wolves in front with a sublime goal. However, just over ten minutes later a slip in defence from Tyrick Mitchell gifted Salzburg an equaliser. A minute later and Mitchell fully redeemed himself by putting Wolves back in front after being put through on goal by player of the match Chaka Traore. Wolves took control of the game when 19 year old Traore capped a magnificent display scoring Wolves third from a corner from Matheus Cunha. Wolves then looked to change it up and defend a little deeper. Deep into the second half the Traore and Cunha partnership struck gold again as Traore completed his brace of goals.
Manager Ray Wallace said after the game “What an amazing way to finish the season off. To be honest we were down in the dumps a little towards the end of the season after the poor run in we had. But the boys dug deep and turned it around throughout the play offs and now here in the final of the FLT. I can’t praise my team and staff enough and also many thanks to all those players over the years that have contributed to getting us into this position……………..YEEESSSS WE FINALLY HAVE A TROPHY”
