Atletico 4 Liverpool 2
No complaints at all with the score line, Atletico deserved the victory and our congrats go to Marshy and his side.
I expected Atletico to regularly change tactic throughout and we set up in our favoured passing style albeit in a 532 formation.
We twice led in the first half hour but were pegged back quickly. Atletico went ahead just before the hour mark and thereafter it was predominantly A v C and I never really felt like we were going to score. Their 4th late on gives the score a more realistic look given how much better they were than us on the day.
Disappointed to lose a final of course and it'll sting a little as did the way we lost the league. But we did manage to lift the FA Cup and on the whole it feels like a good season. There's still lots and lots of work to do to build a stronger and - in time - younger side.
Thanks again to Johnboy and JB for running the games and again well done to Marshy on lifting the trophy.

Atletico Madrid 4 Liverpool 2
Atletico and Liverpool served out a tremendous game of football for the final of the Dave Phillips Trophy
Atletico lost defensive talisman Frimpong to injury and Liverpool immediately took the lead. It looked like a day of woe for the spanish side. Atletico howver, fought immediately back one and then twice to make the score 2-2. 58 minutes and Atletico got their noses in front for the first time but the game was not won until Cristante scored in the 83rd minute.
A delighted Simon Marsh commented "We knew Liverpool would have limited numbers in midfield so we made the decision to pack out the middle of the field and play just one striker. It meant we had less of a scoring threat on the pitch but we felt we could many control possession and create more chances on goal. We spiced up the tactics regularly to nullify their effect on the game and relied on the midfield numbers. We got more domination later in the game so whether it worked or not who knows but we managed to win the game and my first trophy in FFO. It was hard to finish 8th last season and miss out on the Champions League but it provided us with this great day. I am a very happy man".
Marsh added "Commiserations to Liverpool who were on the edge of a treble and lost out twice. They have had a truly wonderful season and Graeme should rightfully be happy and positive about their season. He is a great manager".
The end of Atleticos season ends on a high that has lifted the disappointing league and domestic cup woe. A huge thank you to JB, Johnboy and Nick in running the game. Truly appreciated here.
